Meet Renata Giannelli (Paper, light, and graphic artist) Renata Giannelli , a Milan-born artist of handmade paper, graphic art and light sculptures, dances on the edge where craftsmanship meets poetry. Armed with a degree in Painting from the Polytechnic School of Design  in Milan and the Academy of Fine Arts  in Bologna (class of '84, when shoulder pads were big and artistic dreams even bigger), Renata set out to reimagine the very fibres of creativity. Her early foray into the world of publishing saw her sketching, designing, and sprinkling visual brilliance for prestigious Italian publishers like Nicola Milano and Hats. But something deeper was brewing—an obsession with paper, not just as a surface but as a soul. By the late '80s, Renata plunged into the ancient-yet-ever-fresh world of handmade paper. Her experiments blossomed into the creation of Il Navile Graphic Editions , where art met meticulous craftsmanship. This wasn’t just paper; it was a canvas, a sculpture, a story. Her work earned her the Excellence Award  from the Chamber of Commerce of Bologna in 2004—a shiny nod to her relentless pursuit of innovation. In 2007, Renata waved goodbye to the business model and embraced a cultural revolution, turning her enterprise into a hub of artistic research. By 2013, she founded La Scuola della Carta —a school that transformed handmade paper into a superstar medium for creative expression. Accredited by the Academy of Fine Arts, the school became a melting pot for artists, students, and dreamers alike. Fast-forward to 2020: Renata’s paper laboratory found a new home within the Social Cooperative Arti e Mestieri in Bologna, where art is not just for beauty but for healing. Paper therapy, anyone? A Life Written in Paper and Light Renata’s artistic escapades are nothing short of alchemical. Inspired by Carl Jung’s musings on transformation, she’s spent over four decades exploring the metaphysical interplay of matter, energy, and consciousness. Her creations, ranging from raw and visceral to serene and whispery, embody the spirit of creation. In 2023, Renata unveiled Scarabocchio —a series of light sculptures where disparate materials collide and evolve, illuminated by light and steeped in symbolism. Each piece is a meditation on creativity, a glowing ode to the art of becoming. Not Just an Artist, but a Trailblazer From coordinating workshops for CARTE DIEM  to serving as the Art Director of the BO it! International Illustration Competition , Renata’s impact extends far beyond her own studio. Whether designing museum-worthy merchandising for Italy’s finest galleries or crafting bespoke collections for Top Art, she continues to shape the conversation around art, paper, and design. Renata Gianelli is more than an artist; she’s a paper alchemist, a creative philosopher, and a beacon for those who dare to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary. Discussion of Specific Pieces Mark and Renata talked about: The creative inspirations and materials behind the "Scarabocchio" collection. The interplay of light, structure, and material in her work. How certain pieces, like the mermaid dress, evoke dual interpretations (e.g., bust and tail designs). Artistic Philosophy : Renata elaborated on the symbolic aspects of her work, especially her focus on blending hard (wire) and soft (paper) materials to evoke organic, yet structured designs. Interactive Elements Mark praised specific pieces for their clever use of light and absence of material. Renata highlighted how her creations could be displayed, including packaging details and certificates of authenticity. Future Directions Mark hinted at the versatility of Renata's framed works as triptychs and their storytelling potential. This profile is just one of them. Meet Oluchi Igili (Theatre practitioner, teacher, and poet) In the ever-vibrant tapestry of applied theatre, Oluchi Igili stands as a master weaver, deftly threading the transformative power of storytelling with the raw fibre of social justice. An Applied Theatre Practitioner with a penchant for turning desires into laws  through groundbreaking legislative theatre projects, Oluchi embodies the intersection of academia, artistry, and activism. In their interview, Mark introduced full member Oluchi to the Arts and Culture Network group and co-created her fantasy cultural year by curating activities inspired by her responses to light-hearted questions. Born with a passion for creativity and driven by an insatiable curiosity, Oluchi’s journey began in Nigeria, where she laid the foundation for her multidisciplinary expertise. A BA in Theatre Arts from the University of Port Harcourt ignited her theatrical spark, while an MA in English Studies (with a flair for drama) from Adekunle Ajasin University fanned it into an illuminating flame. Her intellectual appetite led her to the University of Amsterdam, where she earned her PhD in Theatre Studies (2018–2023). Here, she delved into the realms of Legislative Theatre, Theatre for Development (TfD), political theatre, and decoloniality, all while cementing her reputation as a scholar unafraid to challenge the status quo. But Oluchi is far more than an academic. She’s a poet, music lover, writer, and even a dab hand at video editing. With her drama-sensibilities and her deep-seated desire for a just society, she has crafted a career that marries the arts with advocacy . Oluchi's Career Journey Adekunle Ajasin University  (2001–2025): Oluchi spent over two decades shaping minds, first in the Department of English Studies and later in the Department of Performing Arts. Her legacy? Generations of students steeped in creativity and critical thinking. University of Groningen  (2022): A brief but impactful stint as a Bachelor Thesis Supervisor showcased her ability to guide budding scholars in crafting rigorous and imaginative research. University of Amsterdam : From PhD Scholar to Visiting Fellow, Oluchi’s Amsterdam years are a testament to her commitment to global academic discourse, focusing on theatre as a tool for societal transformation. University of Curaçao : Here, she extended her teaching prowess, championing interdisciplinary approaches and fostering a spirit of inquiry among prospectuve PhD candidates. The Researcher’s Repertoire Oluchi’s research is an eclectic mix of theatre, literature, and sociopolitical critique. From revered journal articles to thought-provoking book chapters, her work unpacks the role of performance in addressing systemic inequalities and reimagining power structures. The Woman Behind the Curtain Self-motivated and endlessly curious, Oluchi is a blend of creativity and discipline. Whether crafting a legislative theatre project, mentoring a student, or penning a poem, her work carries the hallmark of someone deeply committed to making the world a better place. The Visionary’s Mission With her sights set on global horizons, Oluchi aspires to teach at foreign universities, where her diverse expertise and boundless passion can inspire a new generation of changemakers. A lifelong learner, she believes that the classroom is not just a place for education but a stage for transformation. Oluchi Igili: where art meets activism, and academia dances with change. A Fantasy Cultural Year: Oluchi's Dream Artistic Journey Watch our interview on Spotify > Crafted during an engaging conversation with Mark, Oluchi's fantasy cultural year unfolds as a journey of democratic engagement, artistic exploration, and personal growth. Starting Point: Exploring Oluchi’s Artistic and Social Journey Oluchi, a trained theatre practitioner and full member of the Arts and Culture Network, reflects on her work in applied theatre, particularly legislative theatre. Her practice aims to strengthen democracy in her home country, Nigeria, through performance-based community engagement. Currently based in Amsterdam as a visiting fellow at the University of Amsterdam, Oluchi’s passion for social change is central to her creative and academic pursuits. Mark, the founder of the Arts and Culture Network, introduced Oluchi to the group and shared plans to co-create her dream cultural year by curating activities inspired by her responses to some light-hearted questions. Creative Conversations: Favourite Buildings and Books Mark and Oluchi discussed their favourite cultural icons. Oluchi named the UN building in New York as her favourite, symbolising global unity and progress. Coincidentally, Mark shared that he had been invited to be a special advisor to the UN Arts and Culture Working Group in 2025. Together, they imagined sitting at a pavement café near the UN building, enjoying the sunshine. Oluchi also revealed that her favourite book was one that had revolutionised her thinking. This revelation set the tone for a deeper exploration of her intellectual and creative inspirations. Global Research in Applied Theatre Mark proposed an exciting - if fantasy - opportunity for Oluchi to conduct international research on applied and legislative theatre. The UN’s Arts and Culture Working Group expressed interest in hiring her for a year-long, well-funded project. This endeavour would involve travelling to countries like Brazil, where legislative theatre originated, to study its effectiveness and popularity, identify key leaders, and document case studies. The project promised additional perks, including a book deal, a TV series, and a lecture tour. Oluchi eagerly embraced the opportunity, particularly her chance to meet pivotal figures and trace the origins of legislative theatre in Rio. Brazilian Adventures: Cultural and Musical Immersion As part of her journey, Oluchi was offered a luxurious apartment overlooking Rio de Janeiro and an invitation to a South African dance performance. In a light-hearted twist, she was asked to limit her musical listening to Christian music for a year as part of a UN experiment exploring cultural impacts. During their plans for Rio, Oluchi expressed her enthusiasm for attending open-water swimming events, despite not knowing how to swim herself. Mark also suggested visiting a digitally enhanced art gallery, where Oluchi chose to immerse herself in Van Gogh’s Starry Night  through virtual reality. Entertainment Preferences and Role-Playing Mark and Oluchi curated a week of diverse entertainment, including a pop concert, a theatre play, a musical, an opera, and a cinema outing. Mark proposed a time-traveling adventure to see Paul Simon with Ladysmith Black Mambazo, which Oluchi excitedly accepted. They also discussed The Sound of Music  and Puccini's Tosca  as highlights of their cultural itinerary. In a playful role-playing exercise, Oluchi imagined hosting a dinner in Rio, inviting Nigerian politician and businessman Peter Obi. She admired him for representing the change she wished to see in Nigeria. The activity concluded with encouragement for Oluchi to pursue her creative content ventures, including a TED Talk, TV series, lecture tour, and book deal. Environmental Advocacy: Waste Management Discussions Oluchi passionately addressed the environmental challenges in Nigeria, particularly the impact of littering during the rainy season. She emphasised the need for education and discussions linking waste management to climate effects. Mark echoed her concerns, citing the Pacific Ocean's plastic island as an example of global environmental neglect. Cultural Curiosity and Personal Growth Oluchi’s year is a tapestry of artistic exploration and global impact. Her journey from Nigeria to Amsterdam to Rio symbolises her commitment to merging creative expression with social change, leaving an indelible mark on the world. Develop your own profile, network, career, and/or business by joining us at The Arts and Culture Network as a full member. It's just £10 per month. Cancel any time. Benefits are here . This profile is just one of them. Meet Walter Groppenberger (Professor at the University of Music and Performing Arts) Walter Groppenberger, born in the cultural heart of Vienna, Austria, began his lifelong journey in music as a member of the world-renowned Vienna Boys Choir. As both a chorus member and a soloist, he performed in concerts, theatre productions, and films, laying the foundation for his musical education. It was during this time that Walter first developed his skills as a pianist. At the age of ten, he began formal piano studies at the Vienna Conservatory of Music, and by twelve, he had already made his orchestral debut. He performed Haydn’s Piano Concerto in D Major with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra in the Grand Concert Hall of Vienna—a remarkable achievement for someone so young. This marked the start of a series of performances, both as a soloist and in chamber music, across Austria and abroad. Walter's early career included some extraordinary highlights: performing Mozart’s Concerto for Two Pianos with Ingrid Haebler under the baton of Rudolf Moralt and playing Beethoven’s Fourth Piano Concerto in the Brussels Palace of Arts in the presence of Queen Elisabeth of Belgium. At nineteen, he graduated with honours from the Vienna Conservatory. Alongside his piano studies, he began exploring conducting, further broadening his musical expertise. In 1961, Walter advanced his studies at the Vienna Academy of Music, joining the class of the esteemed pianist and teacher Bruno Seidlhofer. Their relationship evolved into a deep artistic collaboration and personal friendship, which profoundly influenced Walter’s career. In 1966, Walter began teaching at the Graz Music University, where he was later appointed full Professor in 1992. His role extended beyond teaching; as head of the instrumental pedagogy commission, he contributed to the creation of innovative curricula for music education. He also became a founding member of the Austrian branch of the European Piano Teachers Association (EPTA) and was elected President in multiple terms, later being honoured as its Honorary President. Walter’s scholarship is as impressive as his performances. At the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz, he taught the "History of Piano and Literature" for many years, publishing extensively on the subject. His book, "Can We Really Read Music?" , examines historical changes in musical interpretation from the Baroque period to the present and has been translated into several languages. In addition to his teaching and writing, Walter has led masterclasses and given lecture-recitals at prestigious festivals, universities, and conservatories. His influence spans across Europe, with appearances in cities like Prague, Salzburg, Tallinn, and Copenhagen, as well as internationally in China, Russia, and the United States. He has been a guest lecturer at institutions such as Bradley University, Roosevelt University, and Wesleyan University, earning respect for his expertise and engaging style. Walter also serves as a jury member for national and international piano competitions, sharing his vast knowledge and keen musical insight. Despite his extensive travels and global acclaim, he remains dedicated to nurturing the next generation of musicians, leaving an enduring legacy in the world of classical music. David, who also hosts the podcast "Liner Notes," was welcomed as a new full member. The conversation transitioned into a whimsical fantasy where Mark planned a cultural year trip for David, starting with a question about his favourite building. David shared his passion for the traditional Irish flute and his fascination with the creative processes and output of jazz musicians. Baseball, Cricket, and Book Preferences The conversation expanded to include sports and literature. Mark and David discussed baseball, cricket, and a hypothetical scenario set at Wrigley Field. The discussion concluded with a vivid image of David enjoying a glass of Malbec and the Book of Psalms at a cafe outside Wrigley Field. Exploring Music Education Research Opportunities Mark and David explored the possibility of a fantasy year-long research study focusing on music education, with an emphasis on jazz and roots music. Sponsored by a wealthy Chicago-based family foundation, the study would immerse David in traditional Irish music during a year-long stay in Ireland. The foundation’s support extended to covering all expenses, facilitating a lecture tour, and securing a book deal. However, a unique condition required David to limit his musical listening to traditional Irish music during the study, adding an intriguing layer to the opportunity. Dublin Trip Preferences and Activities Discussion Mark and David envisioned a hypothetical trip to Dublin, filled with diverse cultural activities. Suggestions included attending a tap dancing performance, dining at a French-Irish fusion restaurant, and experiencing a hurling match. David expressed a keen interest in learning more about hurling and exploring Monet’s garden through a virtual reality exhibit. Cultural Event Preferences and Choices The duo curated a week-long cultural itinerary, blending their preferences for various art forms. This profile is just one of them. Meet Tricia Duffy - coach, singer, podcast host, public speaker, and consultant. Tric ia Duffy defies easy categorisation. She’s a songwriter with a penchant for Americana storytelling, a podcaster guiding midlifers to creative balance, a public speaker, a creativity coach, and, for good measure, a heavy-hitting consultant specialising in strategic business wizardry. She’s the kind of polymath who tackles a song’s melody and a corporation’s operating model with equal zest ... and gets both right. The interview was fun, with Mark creating Tricia's fantasy cultural year through entertaining conversational rambles and of course finishing off with the fast paced This or That game. 1990s: Cruising into Entertainment Tricia began her career aboard Cunard Line ships as Assistant Cruise Director, where she honed her skills in connecting with people, whether they were passengers or performers. This was also the period when her love for music and performance started to take shape. Early 2000s: Building Media Powerhouses Tricia swapped the waves for London’s media scene, joining IMG Media. Starting as a Senior Production Manager and climbing to Director of Production Operations and Business Development, she spent over seven years fine-tuning global media strategies, streamlining workflows, and managing multimillion-pound ventures. At BSkyB, she led production management and business affairs for Sky’s original programming, overseeing 460+ hours of first-run content annually. Her strategic foresight even contributed to the launch of new channels like Sky Three and services such as HDTV and Video-on-Demand. 2008–2012: Driving Vision at the BBC As Head of Transformation and Delivery for BBC Vision, Tricia orchestrated large-scale changes for a division with 2,500 employees and a £1 billion turnover. From redundancy strategies to future-proofing operating models, she blended creativity with hard-nosed practicality to help the BBC lead in a digital-first world. Post-Broadcasting: Consultancy Meets Creativity After reshaping traditional media titans, Tricia pivoted into consulting with Lily Grey . Specialising in strategy, change management, and conflict resolution, she now helps media organisations navigate complex transformations. She’s also a certified mediator, useful for untangling executive challenges or - presumably - song lyric ones. Musical Evolutions: Little Lore Tricia’s artistic journey mirrors her professional one, bold, layered, and deeply human. Her Americana duo, Duffy & Bird, released two celebrated projects: 5 Lines (2017) and Spirit Level (2019). During the pandemic, she launched her alter ego Little Lore , a singer and storyteller, showcasing her knack for British wit wrapped in Americana soul. Tracks like Brown Liquor John and Normal have received glowing acclaim for their charm and complexity. 2020s: A Decade of Vision with In Ten Years Time In 2020, Tricia embarked on a personal mission to explore how long-term thinking could unlock creative potential. This culminated in In Ten Years Time : How to Live a Creative Life, a podcast blending storytelling, research, and practical advice to help people find creative balance in midlife. The philosophy is simple but profound: combine the heady power of long-term vision with small, consistent daily steps, and watch the magic unfold. By 2024, In Ten Years Time had blossomed into workshops, keynotes, and free resources for creatives. Its impact was recognised with the Women in Podcasting Award for Arts and Design that same year. Present Day: Juggling Creativity and Consultancy Tricia is currently completing her MA in Songwriting at ICMP, all while championing creative balance through her podcast, making music as Little Lore, and her leadership as London Chapter Coordinator for the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI). As a speaker and workshop leader, she continues to inspire audiences to take small steps toward their creative dreams, proving that it’s never too late - or too early - to start. Tricia Duffy Today: Strategy with Soul Whether she’s guiding businesses through transformative change or helping midlifers rekindle their creative spark, Tricia brings a unique blend of strategic brilliance and artistic empathy. With In Ten Years Time, she has created a philosophy that connects the personal and professional, inspiring others to think big, act small, and create a life that sings. A Fantasy Cultural Year: Tricia's Dream Artistic Journey + This or That game Listen to our interview on Spotify > Crafted during a lively conversation with Mark, Tricia’s transformative journey unfolds as a rich tapestry of artistic discovery, cultural exploration, and personal growth. Here's a glimpse into the interview: Starting Point: Promoting Tricia’s Music and Little Lore Tricia, a talented songwriter and Americana artist, shared her plans with Mark for promoting her music on platforms like YouTube, Spotify, Soundcloud, and LinkedIn. Her alter ego, Little Lore, became a focal point of the discussion, as Tricia highlighted her passion for songwriting, including a quirky song built on just two chords - a nod to pop music’s simplicity. Mark, a fan of country and Americana music himself, enjoyed their exchange of light-hearted jokes about the genre. Transitioning Careers and Embracing Creativity Tricia opened up about her journey from a consulting career to focusing on music, achieving a recent distinction in her master’s programme. She shared plans for her upcoming gig at Green Note and her new project, In 10 Years’ Time,  aimed at inspiring creativity. Mark, in turn, reflected on his own creative transitions, supported by his late mother. He proposed a culturally immersive year for Tricia as a potential research trip. Imaginative Conversations: Italy, New York, and Artistic Inspiration Tricia and Mark delved into imaginative discussions, including a sunny New York café scene where Tricia, with her favourite book The Celestine Prophecy,  was offered funding by a wealthy family foundation for a fantasy cultural year. The grant would allow her to explore songwriting across the globe, resulting in a book, TED Talk, TV series, and lecture tour. Tricia’s excitement peaked as she planned her research starting in Italy, specifically the town of Bellagio on Lake Como. The duo envisioned cultural experiences in Bellagio, from folk dancing and opera to a leisurely lunch overlooking the lake. Mark even teased her with a game-like conversation, proposing a 12-month challenge of listening exclusively to 1960s and 70s American folk music. Creative Adventures and Game-Like Decisions Mark and Tricia played a "this or that" game, where Tricia chose preferences ranging from coffee to country music. They imagined indulging in concerts, plays, and musicals like The Rose Tattoo  and Six,  while virtually exploring Frida Kahlo’s works at a Bellagio gallery. Sustainability remained a key focus for Tricia, as she opted for eco-friendly travel options over luxury ones. Tricia’s Cultural Year and Musical Innovations Their conversation broadened to a discussion of Tricia’s fantasy cultural year, encompassing a book, TV series, TED Talk, and lecture tour. She mentioned exploring pop music for the first time in over a decade and shared her latest song, This Building is Condemned,  a poignant metaphor about postmenopausal experiences. Mark admired her creativity, imagining the song as an anthem of humanity. Desert Island Discs and Scheduling Tricia and Mark concluded with plans for Tricia to interview Mark in a Desert Island Discs  format, exploring his favourite music and life experiences. They discussed continuing their collaborations. You can find the Tricia Duffy on LinkedIn here. Follow her on X here , Instagram here and Facebook here . • Eric Hatch - Environmental and social justice photographer and writer.

Develop your own profile, network, career, and/or business by joining us at The Arts and Culture Network as a full member. It's just £10 per month. Cancel any time. Benefits are here . This profile is just one of them. Meet Eric Hatch (Photographer and writer). With 50 years as a writer and over 25 as a fine-art photographer, Eric Hatch's work bridges the gap between text and image, bringing to life the stories, places, and people that shape our world. He is part documentarian and artist, capturing moments with an honesty that commands attention and invites introspection. In Mark and Eric's interview, many anecdotes were shared, Eric's fantasy cultural year was created and we also got a delve into Eric's super-passions. Early Life and Education: Building a Foundation of Perspective Eric’s creative journey began with a thirst for understanding and a sharp eye for detail. At Dartmouth College, he graduated with high honours in English, balancing academic achievement with extracurricular pursuits like skiing, outdoor adventures, and running the college radio news team. Following Dartmouth, Eric pursued a PhD in English at the University of Virginia, specialising in 19th and 20th century literature. His dissertation explored Henry James and the Aesthetic Movement, a fitting precursor to his future career as a chronicler of the human condition and its intersections with art and environment. The Writer: Crafting Stories That Matter Eric’s writing career took off in his twenties and has resulted in more than 100 published works, ranging from essays and articles to award-winning pieces that have earned him national recognition. His topics are as varied as his experiences, encompassing travel writing for AAA, explorations of societal challenges, and thought-provoking commentary on art and culture. His approach to writing mirrors his photography ... direct, impactful, and designed to make the audience see the world through a fresh lens. The Photographer: Seeing the World Differently Eric’s photographic work focuses on translating what he sees and feels into something tangible for his audience. His images are steeped in honesty, whether they capture the fragile balance of a retreating glacier or the grit and humanity of addiction. For landscapes, Eric’s work is a dialogue between geology and emotion, while his architectural photography blends precision with a sensitivity to a building’s spirit. One of his most impactful collections, “Hard Times for These Times,”  uses post-industrial architecture to reflect the mood of a nation grappling with economic and cultural shifts. The project, consisting of 17 prints on metal, has been displayed at Ohio’s Middletown Arts Center and is available for exhibitions across the United States. Faces of Addiction: Humanity in Focus Eric’s most deeply personal project, “ Faces of Addiction ,”  confronts one of society’s most pressing issues: addiction. Through 50 black-and-white portraits and accompanying stories, the series challenges audiences to look beyond the stigma and see the individual. These portraits are not just images; they are conversations, encouraging empathy and understanding. The project has had significant reach, with ten pieces entering the permanent collection at the Hood Museum of Art. The collection has been featured in galleries and supported by notable figures such as Senator Rob Portman and Governor Mike DeWine of Ohio. Eric’s goal for “Faces of Addiction”  extends beyond art. He aims to use the collection as a tool for education, prevention, and recovery, creating materials that can reach thousands of people affected by addiction. Glaciers in Retreat: A Call to Action Eric’s latest project, “ Glaciers in Retreat, ”  captures the visible evidence of climate change. By focusing on the imperceptible yet undeniable shifts in the Earth’s glaciers, he translates slow geological processes into images that demand attention. This collection has already been featured in exhibitions, including a recent showing in Cincinnati, and is designed for large-scale public displays in museums and corporate spaces. A Life Lived with Purpose Eric’s work isn’t just about capturing moments; it’s about making those moments count. Whether photographing the stark beauty of the Arctic Circle, the decaying buildings of post-industrial America, or the faces of individuals battling addiction, Eric’s art serves a greater purpose. His lens is a tool for connection, advocacy, and change. Collaborations and Opportunities Eric Hatch custom prints his work, offering collectors, curators, architects, and corporate designers access to one-of-a-kind pieces. He is eager to connect with museum professionals and exhibition spaces interested in showcasing projects like “Glaciers in Retreat”  or “Faces of Addiction.” With a commitment to environmentalism and social justice, Eric continues to push the boundaries of what photography and writing can achieve, using his talents to challenge perceptions and inspire action. If you’re ready to collaborate, Eric is always ready to have the conversation. Watch our interview on Spotify: You can find Eric Hatch on LinkedIn here. Follow him on X here , Instagram here . Meet Prakash Ramchandani - CultureTech Entrepreneur In my recent interview with culturetech entrepreneur Prakash Ramchandani , I had the pleasure of diving into his exciting new venture, Metaplay, and its latest product Buddy Guru .  Based in Singapore, Prakash is leading the development of this innovative culture tech platform, which allows users to explore and learn about various global cultures from the comfort of their homes.  Through Buddy Guru, local artists with decades of experience can share their knowledge on art forms, music, and dance, all accessible via an app. The platform offers courses that range from music and dance to wellbeing, including yoga, and it is designed for learners of all ages. Notably, the AI integrated into the platform doesn't replace human interaction but enhances the learning experience by helping users perfect their skills. Prakash’s vision for Buddy Guru is to offer lifelong learning opportunities, providing flexible courses without subscription fees or contracts. Learners can interact with the artists, receive feedback, and even have the opportunity to meet them in person, fostering a blend of online and offline learning. Prakash’s enthusiasm for supporting the creative economy is clear. He highlights a substantial revenue share for the artists involved and invites others with unique skills to join the platform. As we wrapped up, I challenged Prakash to a quick game of "This or That," where I learned a little more about his personal preferences—sparkling water, dark chocolate, and an aisle seat on a plane! It was a fascinating conversation, and I encourage everyone to check out Buddy Guru at buddyguru.ai to explore this groundbreaking platform. Paul Schafer has over five decades of experience in the cultural sector as an educator, advisor, administrator, and researcher. He served as assistant director of the Ontario Arts Council (1967–1970) and founded York University's Arts and Media Administration Program (1970–1974). He coordinated arts and international development programs at the University of Toronto (1984–1990) and taught arts administration and cultural policy at both York University and the University of Toronto. Paul has also undertaken projects for Canada’s Department of External Affairs and advisory missions for UNESCO worldwide. Initially trained as an economist, he previously taught economics at Dalhousie and Acadia Universities. In his paper below, Paul explores the importance (and neglect) of culture as a driver in global economies Introduction: Over the last two and a half centuries, developing economies has been accorded the highest priority in the world. While countless benefits have been derived from this, it has become clear over the last few decades that the costs of developing economies are starting to outweigh the benefits and this could get much worse in the future. Hence the need to make the transition from developing economies to cultivating cultures as the most effective way to deal with this problem in the future.
