A Fantasy Cultural Year: Sidra's Dream Artistic Journey Listen to our interview on Spotify > Crafted during a vibrant conversation with Mark, Sidra's dream year unfolds as a tapestry of artistic discovery, cultural immersion, and personal growth. Here's a glimpse into the interview: Starting Point: Exploring Sidra's Artistic Journey and Process Sidra, a celebrated soulscape artist and member of the Arts and Culture Network, begins her journey by reflecting on her creative process and inspirations. She describes her website, Wriggling Worm Studio, where her paintings are showcased, as a portal into her deeply spiritual artistry. Born and raised in India with an African influence, Sidra discovered her passion for painting at the age of 16. She shares how her work reflects her emotional states and life experiences, turning chaos and confusion into abstract and geometric designs that bring her peace. Sidra considers her paintings complete only when her mind is at peace with the situation, making each piece a profound personal narrative. Exploring Soulscape Art and Emotional Expression Sidra's artistic philosophy is rooted in her identity as a Soulscape artist. Her works, unbound by specific colour palettes, are chosen to evoke emotions that resonate deeply with her soul. She shares her practice of documenting emotions during the creative process and condensing them into short descriptions for each piece. During their conversation, Mark expresses admiration for Sidra's art, particularly the depth and emotional richness of her abstract designs. He reveals his interest in abstract art, especially pointillism, appreciating its invitation for viewer participation. Inspired by Sidra's talent, Mark proposes showcasing her artwork on their website, further amplifying her reach. Creative Conversations: Favourite Building and Book In a light-hearted discussion, Sidra and Mark explore their creative inspirations. Sidra names the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain, as her favourite building, envisioning herself enjoying the view while sipping coffee outside. She also shares her love for Rebecca Zanetti's dystopian series, which explores a future where a virus affects humanity’s empathy. Mark expresses enthusiasm for discovering the series on Audible, ending their imaginative exchange on a note of shared curiosity and appreciation. Year-Long Contract with a Spanish Foundation Sidra’s artistry attracts the attention of a wealthy family foundation, leading to Mark proposing a year-long contract. The foundation values Sidra’s spiritual approach to art, free from organised religion, and invites her to embark on a journey that includes writing a book, recording a TV series, delivering a TED Talk, and conducting a lecture tour across Europe, Asia, and the United States. Excited by the opportunity, Sidra begins her research in Europe, believing that art serves as a testament to human evolution and interconnectedness. Journey to France and Musical Limitations Sidra’s year takes her to the Showway caves in Southern France, where she explores prehistoric art. Based in Monaco, she enjoys luxurious accommodations with a car and driver provided by the foundation. Her exploration is enriched by a unique constraint: listening exclusively to classical rock music, with U2 being her favourite band. The foundation’s interest lies in understanding how this musical limitation influences her creative process. Cultural Indulgence and Formula F4 Racing Sidra’s son joins her in Monaco, where they enjoy the Monaco Grand Prix from their apartment balcony overlooking the finish line. Mark and Sidra also plan indulgent cultural experiences, including a Lion King show and an Argentinian steak dinner. Their shared enthusiasm for the arts brings them closer as they immerse themselves in the vibrancy of Monaco. Cultural Experiences and Entertainment Preferences Sidra and Mark curate a cultural itinerary spanning five days, featuring a classical rock concert by U2, a theatre play (Romeo and Juliet), the musical Wicked, Puccini’s opera Tosca, and a captivating film. Sidra’s interest in Monet’s art inspires a virtual reality experience of his works, blending tradition with modern technology. Favourite Films, Music, and Fantasy Year In a reflective moment, Sidra reveals her love for Pride and Prejudice, while Mark shares his admiration for Terminator. They discuss their musical tastes, including Sidra’s fondness for Italian pianist Ludovico Einaudi. Mark envisions a fantasy cultural year for Sidra, featuring a book deal, a TV show, a TED Talk, and a global lecture tour. Their imaginative journey concludes with a celebratory lunch in Monaco with Sidra’s best friend, Roma, and her husband, as the foundation’s gratitude allows Sidra to expand her musical repertoire on her flight home. Sidra’s year is a celebration of artistic exploration and global connection. It’s a testament to the power of imagination, leaving a profound mark on the world and inspiring others through the beauty of soulscape art. In our interview above I created entertainment entrepreneur Adrian's fantasy cultural year from the answers to some easy questions. Expect surprises, conversational detours, laughs and anecdotes. Beginning his career in Guernsey’s finance sector at just 16, Adrian spent over 30 years excelling in the industry. He held key roles at prominent firms like Credit Suisse, Barings, and Odey Asset Management, ultimately achieving a leadership position with a hedge fund start-up—an apex in his financial career. Yet, for Adrian, professional success marked the start of a deeper exploration of his passions. In 2017, Adrian embarked on a new chapter inspired by his lifelong love for music, first sparked in his teenage years. What began as a creative outlet—managing a friend’s DJ career alongside his demanding finance role—soon grew into a full-fledged passion for artist management. Adrian with ROZZZQWEEN This pivot led to the founding of Orean Music, a boutique artist management company where Adrian now guides a dynamic roster of talent, including Thomas Irwin, ROZZZQWEEN, Max Ryan, James Carn, and LUXE. Adrian’s extensive finance background lends him a distinctive edge in the music industry. His ability to blend sharp business acumen with creative vision helps his artists navigate the complexities of their careers, treating each client as a unique entrepreneurial venture. This profile is just one of them. Meet Melissa James (Performer of heartfelt harmony) Melissa James is no ordinary artist. With a rich tapestry of talents, she is a singer, songwriter, actor, performer whose artistry flows seamlessly into activism, public speaking, and community engagement. Her mantra, “Music is my pathway into other people’s hearts,” perfectly encapsulates the depth and reach of her work. From the stage to the gallery, and from mental health initiatives to workshops, Melissa’s journey is wonderfully multifaceted. Mark and Melissa loved their many conversational detours in Melissa's interview as a full member. They discussed her work and created her fantasy cultural year, which was so great Melissa wished it could be real! Songbird Takes Flight: Early Years Born and raised in North West London, Melissa grew up surrounded by soulful sounds and the calypso rhythms her West Indian parents adored. The soundtrack of her youth expanded during her time at Sussex University, where she discovered blues legends like Bessie Smith, igniting her passion for music. It was in Paris, during her formative years, that Melissa found her artistic voice, honing hr craft with guitarist James Wilson and bassist Marten Ingle while performing in bars across the city. Blossoming as a Songwriter Upon returning to London, Melissa embraced her calling to tell her own stories. With the encouragement of her singing teacher, she began writing songs in collaboration with Ross Lorraine, leading to a creative partnership that continues today. Her debut album, Day Dawns (2012), showcased her soulful storytelling and vocal prowess, blending original songs with moving interpretations of classics. Stripped Back and Fearless Melissa’s 2016 release, Stripped Back , marked a bold step forward. The album’s minimalist arrangements of voice, piano, and guitar laid bare her emotional core, highlighting raw and intimate performances. Tracks like “Live Again” and “Troubled” offered listeners a glimpse into her vulnerabilities, triumphs, and ongoing journey of self-discovery. “These are very personal songs where I’m really giving something of myself,” Melissa reflects. The project’s stark honesty resonated deeply, both in its music and in its powerful black-and-white cover art. Music with a Mission In 2016, Melissa’s song “Live Again” became the cornerstone of her mental health initiative, Sing for Sane (previously SING4SANE). What began as a pop-up Big Sing event in a Heathrow café evolved into a fully-fledged movement, culminating in a recording session at RAK Studios. Proceeds from the charity single go directly to SANE, highlighting Melissa’s commitment to destigmatising mental health struggles. Her workshops and Big Sing events invite audiences to join her on stage, blending music with meaningful action. A Gallery of Causes Melissa’s creative endeavours extend beyond music into event organisation. In 2013, she launched Gig in a Gallery, a series of concerts held in art spaces to raise funds for charities. The initiative’s finale featured an auction with memorabilia from icons like Boy George and performances by renowned artists, including Tom Robinson. Conversations and Compassion The murder of George Floyd in 2020 spurred Melissa to create Stronger on Sundays, an online platform for conversations around racism and injustice. Combining live music with heartfelt dialogue, this initiative exemplifies Melissa’s ability to hold space for healing and change through art. Acting and Performing In September 2023, Melissa debuted as a professional actor, playing the role of Stenographer (and understudying Janet Mackenzie) in Agatha Christie’s Witness for the Prosecution at London’s Old County Hall. Her foray into theatre is another chapter in her ever-evolving career as a performer. The Heart of Her Work Melissa’s artistry is inseparable from her activism. Whether she’s organising a charity concert, hosting a singing workshop, or creating spaces for difficult conversations, her work is varied and holds something in common: the power of music and community. From her soulful albums to her thought-provoking initiatives, Melissa James continues to inspire and connect with audiences worldwide. A Fantasy Cultural Year: Melissa's Artistic Journey Around the World Imagine ...  you're outside London's iconic Southbank Centre, the sun is setting over the Thames, and a book of wisdom rests by your side. This marks the beginning of a vibrant year-long journey, where cultural exploration intertwines with personal passions. Watch Melissa's fantasy cultural year above. The adventure starts in London, before heading to Dakar, Senegal, where you’ll immerse yourself in a year of musical outreach. Engaging with communities, you create connections through group singing, blending performance with cultural exchange. Along the way, you'll perform, host workshops, and even land a TED Talk and book deal titled Teach the World to Sing . In Dakar, you're greeted with world-class hospitality, exploring local and global arts. You attend an Alvin Ailey dance performance, savour spicy Thai cuisine, and step into the works of photographers Robert Mapplethorpe and Annie Leibovitz via immersive VR at a digital art gallery. Throughout the year, personal moments intertwine with grand spectacles. From watching gymnastics to savoring intimate dinners with dream guests Nina Simone and Aretha Franklin, the experience is as deeply personal as it is globally enriching. Concerts:  A magical Brian Adams show. Theater & Film:   A Raisin in the Sun , The Color Purple , and Singin’ in the Rain . Opera & Dance:   La Bohème  paired with Tosca and an Alvin Ailey masterpiece. Musical Exploration:  A deep dive into roots music—blues, folk, gospel, and more. Art:  Immersive experiences with legendary photographers. After a whirlwind year, the first listen upon returning is Purcell's Dido's Lament , marking a reflective close to this fantasy adventure. Whether through art, food, or conversation, the year epitomises the richness of cultural connection and creativity. • Stephanie Navarro - Mediterranean Storytelling Visual Artist.

Develop your own profile, network, career, and/or business by joining us at The Arts and Culture Network as a full member. It's just £10 per month. Cancel any time. Benefits are here . This profile is just one of them. Meet Stephanie Navarro (Mediterranean Storytelling Visual Artist.) Stephanie Navarro , a.k.a. Tani Telas, is not just a visual artist – she’s an alchemist of emotions, an explorer of Mediterranean dreams, and a self-taught visionary. Her canvases whisper secrets of the sea, sing the songs of women’s struggles, and pulse with the colours of life. Let’s embark on the mosaic journey of Tani Navarro, born in the spirited coastal city of Oran, Algeria, into a Spanish family deeply rooted in Mediterranean traditions. Mark shared Tani's gallery her work, marvelling at her unique style. In the interview, Tani shared her journey into becoming a full-time artist, which led nicely into playing the fantasy cultural year game. Watch the video or listen to the audio version to find out more. The Early Tides: From Boats to Brushes Tani’s childhood unfolded amidst the gentle chaos of boats and the eternal rhythm of the Mediterranean waves. By 1985, her family had anchored in Toulon, where ten-year-old Tani discovered her love for writing, drawing, and music. It was during these formative years that her creative spirit began to sail beyond the ordinary. As a student, she spent countless hours transforming paper into magical realms. A fateful assignment on Gustav Klimt led young Tani to raid her family’s makeup drawer, using blushes and eyeshadows to craft warm, earthy tones. This unorthodox approach foreshadowed her later experiments, blending materials to birth unique textures. The Professional Pause: Business Meets Art Tani graduated in International Trade in 1996 and embarked on a two-decade career with The Coca-Cola Company, climbing the ladder from Business Systems Analyst to Global IT Production Lead. Between 1997 and 2019, she honed her analytical mind, mastering project management and operational coaching. But even amidst corporate rigour, Tani’s heart stayed tethered to creative pursuits. The Artistic Renaissance: Brushes Picked Anew In 2003, following a humanitarian journey to India, Tani rediscovered her passion for art. The faces and stories she encountered ignited a desire to pay tribute through ink and pigment. This marked the genesis of her evocative series “Guerreras” (“Warriors”), honouring women’s resilience. Using cosmetics as her medium, she layered eyeshadows and foundations to create canvases imbued with humanity’s raw essence. From Bubbles to Battles: Themes of Exploration Tani’s creations are deeply inspired by the victories and struggles of everyday lives. Her series "Burbujas" (“Bubbles”) and "Trozos" (“Pieces of Something”) celebrate the colourful patchwork of human experience. In perpetual exploration, she embraced oil painting, creating her own pigments from natural ochres and delving into the alchemy of art. A Corsican Canvas: New Beginnings Relocating to South Corsica in 2021, Tani established a studio overlooking the hypnotic blues of the Mediterranean. Her works, like the "Coral" series, reflect the delicate dance between humanity’s impact and nature’s resilience. From group exhibitions in Propriano to festivals like ARTE VALINCO, her art has resonated across communities. Tani joined ARTXTERRA in 2022, immersing herself in a network of Francophone artists to exchange ideas and expand her horizons. Her art’s tactile elements often include materials salvaged from the coastline, highlighting her commitment to sustainability. The Environmental Alchemist Tani’s passion extends to environmental stewardship. She recycles packaging and solvent residues, incorporating them into her art. Her creations speak to the duality of beauty and destruction in the Mediterranean, weaving a poignant narrative of hope and responsibility. Key Dates and Achievements • 1996: Graduated in International Trade. • 1997-2019: A dynamic career at The Coca-Cola Company. • 2010: Resumed painting, debuting the “Guerreras” series. • 2018: Exhibited “Tribute to Women” at Sainte Musse Hospital. • 2021: Opened a studio in South Corsica, embracing natural pigments. • 2022: Joined ARTPOVAL and ARTXTERRA, showcasing works at group exhibitions. • 2023: Featured at the 28th Coti-Chiavari Art Festival and ARTE VALINCO festival. Link to Tani's blog post on We Luv Art Theatre, Teaching, and Beyond Beyond painting, Tani has contributed to theatre and education, founding the association La Météorite in 1998. She’s led visual arts workshops for hospitalised children and authored colouring books to bring joy to young patients. Her theatrical projects have included adaptations, directing, and costume design. The Artist’s Vision Tani Navarro is a woman of contrasts – a dreamer and a doer, a lover of family and nature, and a fierce advocate for art that stirs the soul. Through vivid colours and rich textures, Tani invites us to navigate the tides of life, each painting at a time. Link to Tani's profile Have a browse at some of Tani's work here. Tani's fantasy cultural year In our interviews, we create our full members' fantasy cultural years from the answers to 10 easy questions. We have a time machine and magic wand to help. Home Base Tani Navarro, an accomplished painter and creative visionary, resides with her husband in Corsica, where the Mediterranean's azure waves inspire her vibrant, joyful art. On sunny afternoons, you might find Tani sketching or painting in her seaside studio, capturing the beauty and resilience of life through her distinctive blue palettes and evocative scenes. An intro Tani’s journey into full-time painting began with a pivotal health event in 2017. Though art had always been her passion, it wasn’t until exhibition requests in 2019 that she decided to dedicate herself to it professionally. Mark, a fellow member of the Arts and Culture Network, interviewed Tani about her transition to life as a full-time artist. Their conversation revealed her deep connection to Mediterranean culture and her commitment to creating works that uplift and inspire. Iconic Inspirations: Alcazar Palace and Literature Tani shared her admiration for the Alcazar Palace in Seville, her favourite building, during her conversation with Mark. Imagining her at a café near the palace, Mark asked which book she’d have with her. Tani left the choice open but later discussed The Island  by Victoria Hislop, a moving tale set in a fictional Greek-inspired setting that aligns with her love for Mediterranean narratives. A Cultural Year in Barcelona Tani is set to embark on an exciting year-long research trip in Spain, supported by a wealthy foundation. Her mission: to document the journeys of emerging artists in Barcelona for a TV series, book tour, and Ted Talk. With her travel expenses covered and a luxurious apartment, car, and even a helicopter provided, Tani will delve into the vibrant Spanish art scene while inspiring global audiences with her findings. Immersive Experiences in Barcelona Mark and Tani envisioned a perfect cultural itinerary for Barcelona. Tani’s choices included attending a Martha Graham contemporary dance performance, dining on Japanese cuisine, and exploring a virtual reality gallery featuring Salvador Dalí’s work. She also expressed interest in synchronized swimming and classic musical performances like Cats , adding a layer of diverse inspiration to her artistic repertoire. Opera, Cinema, and Creative Synergies Tani and Mark explored their mutual love of opera and film. Mark recommended Puccini’s Tosca , while Tani shared her admiration for Pedro Almodóvar’s Volver , a film that resonates with her passion for painting Mediterranean women and their stories. They planned to experience Volver  on a big screen, merging their shared appreciation for storytelling across mediums. A Diverse Cultural Itinerary The duo mapped out an eclectic week-long cultural adventure in Barcelona. Their plans included a David Bowie-inspired concert on Monday, a Peter Brook theatre production on Tuesday, a Broadway musical like Cats  on Wednesday, an opera on Thursday, and a film screening on Friday. This immersive schedule highlights Tani’s dedication to drawing inspiration from a wide array of art forms. Artistic Legacy and Future Ventures As Tani prepares for her cultural year in Spain, she continues to leave an indelible mark on the art world. From exhibitions that celebrate Mediterranean life to a book deal, Ted Talk, and TV series showcasing her research, her work bridges artistic vision with cultural storytelling. Mark suggested creating travel packages for fans to explore Tani’s world, blending art, culture, and experience into an unforgettable journey. Quick-Fire Creativity In a playful exchange, Tani revealed her love for contemporary dance, Mediterranean cuisine, and virtual art. When asked to choose a song that defines her journey, she envisioned something as vibrant and uplifting as her paintings—a perfect reflection of her bright, creative spirit.
