Philip Sheppard

Composer, cellist, producer, performer, artist, inventor, educator, and keynote speaker.

Some artists build careers within disciplines. I have spent my life connecting them.

I am a composer, producer, cellist, creative innovator, and Fellow of the Royal Academy of Music. My work spans film, television, video games, live performance, technology, education, and the arts.

Watch my interview with ACN founder Mark Walmsley and discover my fantasy cultural year here.

Over the course of my career, I have composed more than eighty scores for film, television, gaming, and theatre, collaborated with artists ranging from David Bowie and Jimmy Page to ODESZA and UNKLE, and worked on projects including Detroit: Become Human, The Final Year, Mercury 13, Sergio, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens. I am also fortunate to have contributed to global events including the Olympic Games, the Rugby World Cup, and the Tour de France.

Alongside composing, I am fascinated by the relationship between creativity, technology, and innovation. As Artist in Residence for XPRIZE, I help bring artistic thinking into scientific and technological challenges, exploring how creative approaches can help solve complex problems.

I am also the creator of graphic scores—visual artworks that sit somewhere between music, architecture, cartography, and drawing. They allow me to explore ideas before they become sound and have become an important part of my creative practice.

Ultimately, I am interested in possibility: how creativity helps us connect ideas, imagine new futures, and better understand ourselves and the world around us.
