Adam Buss

Cultural and Creative Industries Consultant, Actor, Voice Actor, Host

I have over 20 years of experience in the arts and culture sector. My career is built on a foundation of creativity, leadership, and a touch of humour from my days as a stand-up comedian.

Starting in Derby, I performed as a comedian from 1999 to 2003, even winning Derby’s best comedian. My knack for communication led me to the University of Derby, where I served as President of Communications, managing award-winning student publications and the university radio station.

After graduation, I became Head of Media at Making Waves Communications in London, managing PR campaigns for major brands like Sony Playstation and Air France. This was followed by a role as Press Officer at Derby Playhouse, where I established a national media profile for the theatre.

In 2006, I joined Derby QUAD Limited, initially as Director of Audience Engagement and later as Chief Executive. Over 17 years, I led QUAD to become a renowned centre for art and film, developing partnerships and guiding the organization through significant changes.

I also co-directed the Derby Film Festival, attracting notable figures such as Brian Blessed and Terry Jones. As Marketing Director for the FORMAT International Photography Festival, I showcased contemporary photography on a global stage. Additionally, I chaired the board for 1623 theatre, promoting innovative Shakespearean performances.

One of my proudest achievements was leading Derby's bid for UK City of Culture 2025. While we didn't win, our efforts were highly praised, and I helped lay the groundwork for the city's long-term cultural growth.

Today, I work as a freelance consultant, providing expertise on multi-million-pound bids and strategic development for various cultural institutions. My approach is rooted in empathy, equality, diversity, and inclusivity.

Beyond consulting, I’m an experienced host, MC, and voiceover artist, having interviewed stars like Sir John Hurt and hosted numerous events. My philosophy centers on passion, humility, and humour, ensuring that every project I undertake is successful and impactful.

That's a snapshot of my career. If you're looking to bring your cultural project to life, let's connect and make it happen!
