John Deery

Director, Producer and Screenwriter

I started and continue to run The Public Speaking Course, coaching individuals and businesses on how to stand up and speak in public or online to an audience of any size.

For more than 25 years I’ve worked in film and television, building stories from blank pages into finished productions. I run Joejack Entertainment, where we develop projects across drama, comedy and thriller. My feature film Conspiracy of Silence, starring Brenda Fricker, Hugh Bonneville and Chris O’Dowd, explored a controversial subject within the Catholic Church and went on to win awards and reach international audiences.

Earlier in my career, I co-created and executive produced the BBC children’s animated series Underground Ernie. That experience taught me something important: whether your audience is six years old or sixty, clarity matters.

In 2020, I channelled that experience into founding The Public Speaking Course. After decades directing actors, pitching projects and from research that at least 75% of people have a fear of speaking in public. I help individuals and businesses to break through that fear.

I designed a practical one-day course to help people stand up, speak clearly and communicate with confidence. Since then, I’ve worked with organisations including Shell, HSBC, Amazon, Apple, PwC, Samsung, the BBC and the Metropolitan Police.

I’m particularly passionate about developing meaningful film projects, including a story set in the Middle East about three boys of different faiths brought together by football — a reminder that shared humanity often speaks louder than division.
