Juliette Ricci Lagman

I am an artist, writer and visual storyteller, exploring the intersections between memory, identity, experience and connection.

Photography was my first creative love, but while studying at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, I discovered an equally strong passion for painting and writing. Over the past 20 years, those different forms of expression have gradually come together in my work, allowing me to combine images, words and colour to create deeply personal visual narratives.

Writing has become an important part of my creative practice too. My first book, The Juliette Letters: Confessions of an Artistic Mind, was published in 2019, followed by Be Like Water – A Visual Memoir. I also created the podcast Permission Granted, exploring what can happen when we give ourselves permission to pursue our dreams and live more authentically.

More recently, I relocated with my family from Seattle to Manila, Philippines, where I've fallen in love with the energy, culture and extraordinary creative scene around me. It's given me a new environment in which to make work — but also a new perspective on how I want to live.

Increasingly, I'm interested in what I call “the analog life.”

It's about slowing down. Paying attention. Being present. Creating space away from the constant speed, noise and distraction of modern life and reconnecting with the people, places and experiences that matter.

For me, art is part of that process.

It's a way of noticing and remembering. A way of making sense of our experiences. And, although my work begins with my own stories and memories, I'm interested in that moment when something deeply personal becomes universal — when somebody sees a piece of my work and recognises something from their own life within it.

Ultimately, I want my work to encourage people to slow down, look more closely and reconnect with what matters.
