Scott Flynn

I work with musicians and artists across a wide range of styles, with the trombone at the centre of my playing and composition. My professional career has included international touring, recording, live performance, musical direction and collaborations across electronic music, jazz, reggae, funk, hip-hop and experimental music.

I studied Performance, Production and Orchestration at Berklee College of Music and have worked with artists including ODESZA, Pretty Lights, Lauryn Hill, Jimmy Heath, Big Daddy Kane, Marcus Miller, Michel Camilo and Bob Mintzer. I joined ODESZA in 2016 and have performed with the group internationally.

Alongside collaborative work, I create and produce original music through projects including Elephant Wrecking Ball, The Trombombs and Death by Dub. Elephant Wrecking Ball brings together trombone, bass and drums with electronic production and influences from jazz, hip-hop, electro and avant-garde music.

I also work as a trombone educator, developing lessons, masterclasses, mentorship and practical resources for players at different stages. My teaching focuses on areas such as tone, range, endurance, technique and developing a more effective approach to practice.

As an author, I create practical resources for musicians, drawing on professional performance experience and years of working with the instrument. My aim is to make the technical side of playing easier to understand while leaving plenty of room for musicians to develop their own sound.

I am particularly interested in improvisation and exploratory music, and in what happens when musicians from different backgrounds bring their own musical languages into the same room.
