Sita Brand
Storyteller, Artist, Writer and Mindfulness Teacher
My creative practice explores folklore, personal experience and cultural memory through storytelling, performance, visual art and mindful practice.
My career began in theatre before developing into a wider practice spanning storytelling, arts leadership, heritage, education and mindfulness.
See my main profile here.
I work with traditional myths and folktales as well as personal stories, exploring how narratives travel between cultures and generations and what they can reveal about the people who tell them.
I founded Settle Stories in 2010, developing it from a storytelling festival into an organisation working across live performance, education, artist development, heritage and digital storytelling. I have also worked across the wider arts and heritage sector, including cultural development and advisory roles.
Alongside my creative work, I teach mindfulness and meditation and have experience working in settings including retreats and prisons. My artistic practice also includes painting influenced by Indian folk traditions and fairytales.
I am particularly interested in the meeting point between traditional culture and contemporary creative practice — and in finding new ways for stories to reach people who may not normally encounter them.
