Sofia Stefou

Chief Storyteller and Producer

I produce entertainment, branded content, and original stories that connect people, brands, and audiences across platforms.

My work tends to sit at the intersection of intimacy, myth and contemporary identity, and I’m drawn to stories that sit just slightly sideways from realism — emotionally truthful but heightened in tone, texture and structure.

See my main profile here.

I originally entered the industry through performance and movement work, which means I still think like a performer in rehearsal and like a choreographer when I’m blocking for camera. Writing and directing came later, almost out of necessity, because I wanted to make work that didn’t exist yet and needed to author it myself.

Producing then followed almost inevitably — first informally, then properly — because I realised that getting a film made requires someone who cares about the infrastructure of the idea as much as the idea itself. That became me.

As a producer, I build projects from the ground up. I’m comfortable navigating the unglamorous parts of filmmaking — timelines, budgets, investor decks, rights and clearances, schedules, contracting, festival strategy, distribution conversations and the thousand micro-decisions that keep creative people sane.

I enjoy putting teams together: matching the right DP with the right script, finding a designer who actually hears the emotional world of a piece, or spotting the performer who unlocks the tone. I’m motivated by building environments where people can do their best work without having to fight the room.

My writing process is sensory and rhythmic — scenes arrive to me more as texture and pacing than as clean dialogue blocks. I’m interested in memory, desire, grief, female interiority, and the absurd seriousness of being alive. I like characters who are sincere, even when they’re awkward or unlikeable, and I like worlds where the emotional logic is slightly louder than the literal one. As a director, I approach the camera as an active participant rather than simply an observer, and I care a lot about performance truth, spatial storytelling, and the energy of the edit.

Over the last few years I’ve produced several independent projects, moving them from early concept through to delivery. These ranged from short-form narrative work to filmed theatre and experimental hybrid pieces. Across all of them, I handled team assembly, production planning, investor relations, pitch materials, on-set producing, and post-production management.
