Steven Partiman
Multidisciplinary artist
I’m Steven Partiman, an artist whose creative journey began in Paramaribo and continues in Amsterdam—where a path forged over more than four decades has led me from a young dreamer to a multidisciplinary creative.
My training at the Nola Hatterman Art Academy in Paramaribo (and later further studies in Amsterdam) grounded me in painting, drawing, sculpture and mixed-media, nurturing both technique and cultural awareness.

My work ranges from monochrome inkt sketches and intimate portraits to vivid graffiti, abstract canvases and large-scale public art. Over the years, I’ve exhibited across Suriname and Europe and delivered public installations in Istanbul, Sofia and Washington DC.
I spearheaded the annual Keti Koti events in Aalsmeer and Kudelstaart—commemorative art experiences that celebrate Surinamese emancipation and embrace community through creativity. As a board member of the Federatie Beeldrechten, I advocate for artists’ rights, and as an Ambassador for Arts and Culture, I champion the transformative power of artistic expression.
Whether working on a commission, organising an event, or simply experimenting in the studio, I live by the motto “pluk de dag”—seize the day—with paint, passion and purpose.
