Walter Groppenberger
Educator and author
I am Walter Groppenberger, a pianist and professor dedicated to advancing piano performance, education, and research into music history and literature.
My name is Walter Groppenberger, and I have been fortunate to live a life immersed in music. My journey began with the Vienna Boys Choir, where I first discovered my love for piano and performance. Over the years, I’ve performed in renowned venues, collaborated with distinguished musicians, and had the honour of sharing music with audiences worldwide.
As a Professor at the University of Music and Performing Arts, I have guided students in piano performance and instrumental pedagogy while contributing to the development of new curricula. I also co-founded EPTA Austria, where I worked to unite and inspire piano educators. EPTA is the European Piano Teachers Association, an organisation established in 1978 to support and connect piano teachers across Europe. Its primary mission is to promote the highest standards of piano teaching and performance.
My academic work includes publications on piano history and interpretation, which reflect my deep passion for understanding and sharing the evolution of musical expression.
In addition to teaching and writing, I conduct masterclasses, lecture-recitals, and serve as a jury member for international competitions. I remain committed to helping others discover the transformative power of music and its timeless beauty.
