Interview summary - The Fantasy Cultural Year

Aase Birkhaug - Internationally acclaimed natural artist and advocate for art and wellbeing.

During their interview, Mark and Aase Birghaug, an internationally certified painter and physical therapy specialist, envisioned a fantasy cultural year rich in art, exploration, and personal growth. Their shared love for botanical art, and culture inspired a creative itinerary that reflected Aase's passions and talents.

Astrology and Botanical Art

Mark and Aase imagined a year of studying spiritual and botanical art across the globe, with Aase diving deeper into her recent focus on astrological paintings, each representing a zodiac sign. This journey would intertwine her artistic pursuits with her fascination for the natural world, mirroring her work at the Bergen Botanical Gardens, where she guides visitors and prepares for events like the Rose Service.

A Global Artistic Odyssey

The fantasy year included travels to hotspots of botanical art, where Aase could connect with other artists, create a documentary, and deliver lectures at universities and art schools. Alongside this, the duo envisioned a TED Talk, a TV series, and a book project that would explore the impact of art on human well-being.

Aase's belief in art as a tool for improving mental and emotional health resonated deeply in their plans.

Music, Theatre, and Culinary Delights

Cultural exploration was a cornerstone of the fantasy year, with plans to attend a series of performances:

  • A pop or rock concert at a botanical garden.

  • A Shakespeare play at London’s Globe Theatre.

  • A Broadway musical such as West Side Story.

  • An opera like La Bohème.

The imagined itinerary also included fine dining experiences, with Aase expressing a love for ballet and a fondness for dishes featuring venison.

Personal Passions and Artistic Inspirations

The fantasy cultural year highlighted Aase’s multifaceted interests. Her love for dressage, as a former competitive horse owner, was a delightful revelation. She also shared her admiration for contemporary artist Ian Raya Smith and her enjoyment of flute music, often playing her own silver flute for relaxation.

Manifesting Dreams

Mark and Aase’s imaginative discussion served as a reflection of Aase’s artistic vision and aspirations. The cultural year represented a manifestation of her dreams, combining her passion for art, astrology, and human connection into a transformative journey.

Their conversation concluded with plans to share Aase’s updated biography and work samples for a feature in Art Magazine, ensuring her story reaches a wider audience.
