Meet Katrine Gray

In a recent follow-up interview, Mark, the founder of the Arts and Culture Network, caught up with full member Katrine Gray and discussed various ongoing projects and updates.

Katrine shared about the Kawa Fermata Fellowship at the University of Chicago, which supports interdisciplinary inquiries and encourages curiosity and experimentation. She emphasized the importance of sharing the process, not just the final project, to foster creativity. Mark agreed with Katrine's perspective, referencing the idea "don't let perfect be the enemy of the good."

Katrine guided Mark through the process of accessing the Grace Center website, specifically the fellowships and Kava Fermata sections. They discussed a project by visual artist Tiffany Chon and historian Mark Bradley, which explores the history of migration, particularly forced migration, through the migration of food and spices. The project focuses on the community around Boise, Idaho, where Somali and Afghan spaces have been integrated into local cooking.

Mark and Katrine discussed a multidisciplinary project called "The Art of Memory" by Otto, a full member of their organization. The project aims to bring together musicians, digital artists, and scent artists to try and bring to life lost memories as a result of Alzheimer's. Katrine suggested that Otto should get in touch with the Grace Center at the University of Chicago, and possibly a neurologist, for further collaboration. Mark agreed to connect Otto with Katrine and the University of Chicago. They also agreed to have a regular catch-up meeting every six months.

Katrine shared that her novel, which explores the effects of generational trauma on personal choices and decisions, has been picked up by a publisher and is set to be published in May. The novel is a fictitious story and its availability will depend on the proofing and copy editing process. Mark expressed interest in the novel and suggested a follow-up discussion once it's published. Katrine also mentioned that her novel will be available on Amazon and possibly in bookstores.
