Storytelling Indian Artist

A dynamic and self-taught Indian artist, my creative journey has flourished over the past decade.

I’m Geeta Yerra, a self-taught artist from India, and my creative journey has truly flourished over the past decade. You can watch my interview with Mark and explore my work here.

My background is in Human Resources, but life took an unexpected turn when I moved to the UK with my husband for a couple of years. During that time, my passion for art deepened so much that, upon returning to India, I decided to leave my HR career behind and fully embrace art as my true calling.

In the early days, I focused on realism, particularly through watercolor paintings that captured the subtleties of everyday life. These works were known for their delicate precision and attention to detail. However, the pandemic in 2020 became a transformative period for me. It was then that I began exploring concept art, shifting my focus to larger-scale oil paintings on expansive linen canvases. This marked a significant change in my work, allowing me to dive into more profound themes and ideas.

Today, my art reflects my experiences, emotions, and observations of the world around me. Each painting is like a visual diary, chronicling true events and personal stories that have left a lasting impression on me. I’m particularly drawn to creating art that adds to the tapestry of history, capturing moments in time through a surrealistic style rich with symbolism, motifs, and allegory. I love using color and texture deliberately, often layering paint to build depth and convey the complexity of my subjects. I also enjoy adding small brushstrokes and intricate details that invite viewers to engage more deeply, uncovering hidden meanings and sparking emotional connections.

I’m deeply committed to concept art, often revisiting the same ideas through different visual interpretations. This ongoing dialogue with my concepts allows me to continuously evolve as an artist, offering fresh perspectives on familiar subjects. My work embodies a sense of beauty, confidence, uncertainty, and perseverance, all of which are woven into the fabric of my creations.

You can find my original paintings on various online platforms like Artfinder, Saatchi Art, and Tricera, as well as art prints through Fine Art America. My website is a hub for my latest conceptual pieces, and I hope that when you explore it, you leave with a sense of joy and inspiration. For me, art isn’t just about visual appeal; it’s about connecting with others, sharing stories, and fostering a sense of community through creativity.

My artistic philosophy is rooted in the belief that art is a powerful medium for self-expression and healing. Whether I’m depicting a serene landscape, a poignant moment, or an abstract concept, my work is always infused with a deep sense of purpose. I hope my paintings resonate with you, prompting reflection on your own experiences and perhaps even sparking an inner dialogue.

As I continue to explore the unknown parts of myself through art, I remain dedicated to creating works that inspire, uplift, and connect people across the world.
