Nikki Reimer

Writer and Communications Specialist

I’m Nikki Reimer — a poet, multimedia artist and senior digital communications specialist based in Calgary. My work examines grief, bodies, culture and social life with honesty, wit and an experimental spirit.

My writing tends to be playful in tone but serious in intention — I’m just as likely to make you laugh at the absurdity of being human as I am to make you think about how we memorialise what’s gone.

I’ve published four poetry books — No Town Called We, My Heart is a Rose Manhattan, DOWNVERSE and [sic] — and have seen my work recognised in Canadian literary awards. No Town Called We was long-listed for the Pat Lowther Memorial and Raymond Souster awards, and [sic] was shortlisted for the Gerald Lampert Memorial Award. Beyond the page, I’ve developed performance pieces, multimedia webpages like GRIEFWAVE.com and collaborated in interdisciplinary arts contexts.

In my day job, I’m the Senior Digital Specialist at the University of Calgary Faculty of Arts, shaping digital strategy, content and design with empathy, clarity and a surprising fondness for tackling thorny problems. I also co-found and help run the Chris Reimer Legacy Fund Society, which supports bursaries and arts projects in memory of my brother.

I’m currently working on my Master’s researching how digital culture reshapes how we talk about death. Outside of writing and strategy, I’m on social media dissecting language, culture and community. I make space for joy, grief, curiosity and the messy in-between.
