Arts Strategy & Marketing Consultant

I've spent more than 30 years working in and alongside the arts sector, and I'm still fascinated by how organizations work. I enjoy untangling complex problems, helping teams find clarity, and turning good ideas into practical action. When I'm not consulting or teaching, I'm usually writing, speaking, or observing the wonderfully human side of arts organizations.

I help arts and culture organizations figure out what matters, what comes next, and how to get there.

I’ve spent more than 30 years working in and around the arts, across marketing, audience development, strategic planning, facilitation, and organizational change. I work with organizations of all sizes, particularly when there are too many priorities, things are changing, or everyone is working very hard, but the way forward isn’t quite clear.

My approach is practical, collaborative, and straightforward. I’m interested in strategy that people can actually use — not plans that sit on a shelf, complicated processes, or more work for the sake of more work. Good strategy should make things clearer.

I’m also the author of Marketing Made Practical and teach marketing strategy at the University of Toronto Scarborough.

Mostly, I help people get clear about what they’re trying to do, make good decisions, and get on with doing it.
