Whatever your perceived level of LinkedIn expertise, you may not have done the basics and may be missing some tricks. I learn something new to try almost every day.

The Arts and Culture Network was made possible by LinkedIn.

I started the group in 2010 and by 2020 it had grown to 10,000 members. Just 2 years on and we have over 16,000 members with 40 or so new members joining every day from all over the world.

At our current rate of growth, we will have over 30,000 members by the end of 2023.

It has also been key to the development of my own professional network and to the success of the roles I've had and the organisations I run and/or own.

77% of recruiters actively use LinkedIn to find potential candidates.

80% of professionals cite LinkedIn as "vital" for career development.

I've been very fortunate. As an instinctive early adopter, I started using LinkedIn early in 2004 and was one of the first 100,000 to do so. As a result, I'm lucky to have over 22,000 followers now, which gives me access to over 1 million second connections, people with whom I share a first connection.

There are currently over 870 million LinkedIn users around the world and it is now firmly established as an essential tool for career, professional and business development.

The benefits of using LinkedIn correlate to the number of first connections you have and how actively and creatively you engage with other LinkedIn users. It also correlates to the completeness of your profile.

According to Statista, 28% of LinkedIn users have fewer than 300 connections. Here is the follower break down:

0-300 connections =28%

301-499 = 16%

500-999 = 27%

1,000 - 2,999 = 18%

3,000 - 9,999 = 10%

10,000+ = 1%

How many first connections/followers do you have? The global average is about 750 (According to LinkedIn), so if you have fewer than that, you may be missing out on opportunities to connent, converse and collaborate.

According to HubSpot, LinkedIn is 277% more effective at generating leads than either Facebook or Twitter.

But it isn't all about quantity, the quality of your network and your activity can compensate for having fewer followers.

In my 60-minute masterclass we'll cover some or all of the following:

  • What is LinkedIn?
  • How to create and/or optimise your profile.
  • How to make yourself more findable.
  • How to encourage people to connect with you.
  • How to increase levels of engagement with your content.
  • How to generate meetings.
  • How to automate some of the activity.
  • How to grow a community on LinkedIn.

At the end of our masterclass we'll have an after-party for open networking during which we will all connect with each other on LinkedIn.
