Meet Parisa Golchoubian.
In this interview, Mark invited Parisa Golchoubian to create her own fantasy cultural year from the answers to some easy questions where there are no wrong answers. Enjoy her journey below.
Parisa Golchoubian is an independent designer and creative director who runs her own studio practice, working at the intersection of branding, art direction and visual storytelling. Operating through her self-led platform, Parisa Golchoubian Studio, she collaborates with clients, brands and individuals to build thoughtful, visually distinctive identities.
Her business is rooted in a boutique, hands-on approach. Rather than scaling into a large agency model, Parisa keeps her practice intentionally focused—working closely with each client from concept through to execution. This allows her to maintain creative control while delivering work that feels precise, personal and aligned with each project’s purpose.
Through her studio, Parisa Golchoubian offers services across brand identity design, creative direction and visual strategy. Her work often includes logo systems, typography direction, digital presence and overall brand language. She approaches each project by first understanding the core idea behind a brand—what it stands for, who it speaks to, and how it should be experienced—before translating that into a clear visual identity.
Alongside client work, her studio also functions as a space for creative exploration. Parisa regularly develops self-initiated projects that inform her commercial work, allowing her to test ideas, refine her aesthetic and stay creatively independent.
Her business reflects a broader shift in the creative industry—away from large, impersonal agencies and towards independent studios that prioritise collaboration, flexibility and depth of thinking. Clients work directly with her, not through layers of management, which results in a more transparent and engaged process.
Parisa Golchoubian’s studio is built on clarity, intention and strong visual storytelling. It’s not about producing work quickly—it’s about producing work that lasts.
Parisa Golchoubian's Fantasy Cultural Year ... with a magic wand and time machine to hand.
Mark introduced the idea of a “fantasy cultural year” - a way to get to know each new full member that's far more spontaneous than a traditional interview — allowing imagination, travel, culture and Parisa's creative vision to collide.
It’s early evening. She’s sitting at a pavement café, a cold glass of sharbat—a refreshing Persian drink, often infused with saffron—on the table beside her. Next to it lies a book of Persian poetry, likely by Hafez or Rumi, while traditional Persian music plays softly through her headphones.
From there, things take a turn toward the extraordinary.
A Creative Mission Begins
Fresh from a meeting with a wealthy Iranian arts foundation, Parisa is offered a dream opportunity:A year-long, fully funded global journey to explore the intersection of creativity and technology.
She’ll:
Travel the world
Collaborate with creative technologists
Create new work
Be followed by a TV crew
Publish a book, deliver a TED Talk, and go on a global lecture tour
Her response? Yes—without hesitation.
Stop 1: Southeast Asia (Bali)
Her first destination is Bali, inspired by a desire to turn environmental data into emotional, visual storytelling.
She’s particularly drawn to the plastic waste crisis across Southeast Asia—places like Thailand and Malaysia—and how art can make invisible data feel real. She references her own project in Canada, visualising the staggering statistic that the average person uses around 150kg of plastic per year.
Musically, she commits to a year of indie music, highlighting emerging artist Nyika as one to watch.
That evening, her cultural experience? A live Flamenco performance—chosen for its emotional intensity, expressive movement, and strong connection between fashion and storytelling.
Dinner follows, with her ideal cuisine leaning toward Middle Eastern or Mediterranean flavours, particularly Greek.
Stop 2: Mexico
Next, she heads to Mexico for a “sports as art” experience.
Her pick? Rhythmic gymnastics—drawn to its blend of athleticism and artistry.
Stop 3: Italy (Florence)
The journey continues to Florence in the Tuscany region.
Here, Parisa steps into a futuristic digital gallery experience—entering a virtual reality world built from the paintings of Claude Monet. Walking through his landscapes, especially the poppy fields, feels like a natural extension of her own artistic sensibilities.
Back to London: A Week of Culture
Returning to London, the pair map out a full cultural week:
Concert: Backstreet Boys (a nostalgic choice, ideally at the Las Vegas Sphere)
Theatre: Hamlet by William Shakespeare
Musical: Hamilton for its innovation
Opera: Tosca by Giacomo Puccini at the Royal Opera House
Film: Interstellar by Christopher Nolan—chosen as much for its score as its visuals
The Hero Lunch
To round things off, Parisa is offered one final indulgence: a two-hour lunch with anyone in history.
Her choice? Nikola Tesla.
Fascinated by his visionary thinking and ideas far ahead of their time, she’d use the opportunity to explore his theories—and test some of her own.
