Meet Alexandra Harper.
In this interview, Mark invited Alexandra Harper to create her own fantasy cultural year from the answers to some easy questions where there are no wrong answers. Enjoy her journey below.
Alexandra Harper is the founder of Women of Culture, a growing international platform dedicated to championing women working across the arts, culture, and creative industries. With a sharp eye for storytelling and an instinct for community-building, Alex has carved out a space where creativity and representation aren’t just buzzwords—they’re the baseline.
Her career sits at the intersection of culture, media, and advocacy. Rather than taking the traditional route, Alexandra has built her reputation by connecting people, amplifying underrepresented voices, and asking better questions about who gets seen—and why. The result is Women of Culture: part network, part movement, and part ongoing conversation about equity in creative spaces.
Alexandra Harper’s work focuses on elevating women’s voices through interviews, features, and collaborations that span disciplines—from visual arts and performance to literature and design. Under her leadership, the platform has become known for its thoughtful curation and its ability to spotlight both emerging talent and established figures without losing authenticity.
Alongside her work on Women of Culture, Alexandra Harper works as a Freelance Graphic Designer and Art Director at Artfull Design, where she brings brands and creative ideas to life through thoughtful, visually-driven storytelling. Her design work reflects the same ethos as her platform: intentional, human, and rooted in authentic expression rather than passing trends.
Alexandra is also a founding member of Dreamers // Doers, a highly curated, female-focused collaboration and co-mentorship community. The network connects an ever-growing group of entrepreneurs, investors, and advisors, and reflects Alex’s ongoing commitment to building meaningful, supportive ecosystems for women across industries.
Alexandra Harper's Fantasy Cultural Year ... with a magic wand and time machine to hand.
Mark introduced the idea of a “fantasy cultural year” - a way to get to know each new full member that's far more spontaneous than a traditional interview — allowing imagination, travel, culture and Alex's creative vision to collide.
Her Ideal Moment
If you had to place Alex Harper anywhere in the world, she’d start in World Trade Center Oculus, the striking, bird-like structure designed by Santiago Calatrava. She loves the way light pours through it — “pretty, pretty amazing,” as she puts it.
Picture her there on a warm June evening: an Aperol spritz in hand, and a copy of Untamed by Glennon Doyle on the table — a book she describes as part personal development, part life-reset.
The Big Opportunity
Fresh from a meeting with a New York foundation, Alex is tasked with creating a Global Grand Tour for Women — a six-week, first-class cultural journey across the world. Think museums, performance, history, and creativity — with a mission to spotlight women in culture.
There’s just one catch: she must listen to only one genre of music for a year. Easy choice — R&B and soul, with artists like Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, and Les Nubians on repeat.
🏛️ Stop 1: Athens — The Beginning
Alex chooses to begin chronologically, starting in Athens — the birthplace of so much Western culture.
She’s swept into a loft overlooking the Acropolis and treated to a dance performance by Parsons Dance Company, founded by David Parsons.
Dinner? No hesitation: Italian, ideally a rich Bolognese — because in this fantasy, calories don’t exist.
🇮🇹 Stop 2: Rome — Culture Meets Sport
Next up: Rome. Between soaking up history, Alex opts for a live tennis match, seated right by the net for maximum intensity.
🇹🇷 Stop 3: Istanbul — Art & Immersion
Then it’s on to Istanbul, visiting landmarks like the Blue Mosque.
Here, she steps into a futuristic VR gallery experience — and chooses to immerse herself in the vibrant, psychedelic work of Beatriz Milhazes, drawn to its bold colour and energy.
Back to London: A Cultural Week
Back in London, Alex curates the ultimate week of culture:
🎤 Concert: Reliving her first gig — The B-52's (yes, Love Shack included)
🎭 Theatre: A Midsummer Night's Dream at Shakespeare's Globe
🎶 Musical: Rent with the original cast
🎼 Opera: Tosca at the Royal Opera House (a gentle intro to a genre she doesn’t usually gravitate towards)
🎬 Film Night: Love Actually — her go-to feel-good classic
The Hero Lunch
For a two-hour Italian lunch, Alex invites feminist icon Gloria Steinem — someone she once met but was too shy to speak to.
This time, she’d ask about:
The future of feminism
The role of arts in women’s empowerment
And if Gloria could bring a guest? Alex imagines one of the original trailblazers — perhaps Susan B. Anthony or Emmeline Pankhurst.
