Meet Regine Garnier.
In this interview, Mark invited Regine Garnier to create her own fantasy cultural year from the answers to some easy questions where there are no wrong answers. Enjoy her journey below.
If you ask Regine Garnier where it all began, she’ll point you straight to the Caribbean. Born in Guadeloupe, Regine Garnier grew up surrounded by rhythm, colour and the kind of cultural vibrancy that naturally breeds musical instinct.
For Regine Garnier, music was never background noise – it was identity. From childhood, she saw songs as the one space where she could be entirely herself. No filter. No compromise. Just emotion.
That early connection evolved into a career defined by versatility and fearless creativity. Regine Garnier’s musical repertoire reflects her broad tastes – blending pop, Caribbean influences and contemporary production into a sound that feels both international and unmistakably her own. Her music has been described as fresh, innovative and unique – but more importantly, it feels honest.
Her debut single “Lombraj” made a strong impression, reaching number 3 on the Caribbean Radio Chart. Not a bad way to introduce yourself to the world. She followed this momentum with new material including her single “Rude Boy”, offering listeners a confident, modern introduction to the Regine Garnier sound.
Regine Garnier’s growing reputation has led to some remarkable milestones. She has shared the stage with legendary international act Earth, Wind & Fire, proving she can hold her own alongside musical icons. She also performed at the prestigious British Golden Jubilee celebration in honour of the Queen of England – a career moment that blends talent with ceremony.
Her commitment to quality has taken her internationally. Regine Garnier recorded at the world-renowned Hit Factory in Miami, collaborating with top producer Mr Beatz (YMCMB) and acclaimed songwriter Corte Ellis. These sessions helped shape her evolving sound as she works on her debut album with several producers. The album promises new musical horizons, combining Caribbean spirit with global pop ambition.
In 2014, Regine Garnier was nominated for Best International Pop Act at the Music Industry Awards (MIA) in Atlanta – recognition of her expanding global footprint.
Beyond music, Regine Garnier believes in impact. She serves as Ambassador for the “Foundation Espoir Pour Haiti”, supporting Haitian communities during natural disasters and in everyday life. Her platform isn’t just for performance; it’s for purpose.
She has also attended internationally recognised events such as London Fashion Week and expanded her creative expression with a role in the independent short film Black Ink.
Today, Regine Garnier continues to build a career that bridges cultures, genres and audiences. Whether performing live, recording in world-class studios, or supporting humanitarian causes, Regine Garnier represents a modern artist with both heart and global ambition.
Regine's Fantasy Cultural Year ... with a magic wand and time machine to hand.
Mark introduced the idea of a “fantasy cultural year” - a way to get to know each new full member that's far more spontaneous than a traditional interview — allowing imagination, travel, culture and Regine’s creative vision to collide.
Mark asks Regine Garnier to imagine she’s sitting on the terrace of the Royal Festival Hall on a warm June evening at 6pm. The sun’s out, she’s heading to a concert, waiting for friends … cup of ginger and lemon tea on the table beside her.
There’s a book on the table too. Her choice? Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway by Susan Jeffers — a book she describes as powerful, empowering, and full of practical advice for staying positive.
Headphones in. What’s playing? Usher – “Let It Burn.”
🌍 The Big Offer: A Fantasy Cultural Year
A wealthy London-based family foundation — who support singer-songwriters globally — want to hire Régine for a year to travel the world discovering, writing with, and recording singer-songwriters from different societies.
First class travel. Huge fee. Assistant handling all admin. Film crew following her. Book deal. A TED Talk at the end. Global university lecture tour. Friends and family allowed to visit.
🌍 Stop One: Africa (Ghana & Nigeria)
Régine says she has a soft spot for Africa, especially Nigeria and Ghana.
They settle on Accra (Régine correctly notes Ghana’s capital is Accra, and Nigeria’s major city is Lagos).
On the flight — first class, ginger tea in hand — the foundation gives her a musical challenge:
She must listen to only one genre for 12 months.
Her choice? Afrobeat.
💃 In Accra
She gets the best seat in the house at an Afrobeat dance festival.
Dinner is rice and stewed beef.
🇬🇵 Guadeloupe
Next, she chooses her home country: Guadeloupe.
It’s “Sport Day” — she can watch any sporting event in the world. She picks:
Athletics. So Mark places her in the VIP box at the World Athletics Championships in Guadeloupe.
🇳🇬 Nigeria (Lagos)
Back to Africa — this time Lagos.
In a futuristic digital art gallery, she puts on VR glasses and steps inside the work of a famous artist in 360 degrees.
Her pick? David Hockney.
🎭 A Week in London
Monday (Time Machine Concert): Usher live again
Tuesday (Theatre): The Lion King
Thursday (Opera): La Bohème by Puccini at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden
Friday (IMAX at the South Bank): 1994 film Forrest Gump
🍽 Hero Lunch
During the journey, Regine attends Hero Lunch, where she can invite anyone - living or not - for a 2 hour leisurely lunch. She chooses Anita Baker. And if Anita could invite someone? Aretha Franklin. A dream lunch. Possibly with duets.
