Interview summary
In his meeting with Mark Walmsley, Founder of The Arts and Culture Network, Taraq shared a life shaped by compassion, creativity, and a deep commitment to mental health through the arts.
Together, he and Mark embarked on a “fantasy cultural year,” imagining a global odyssey beginning in Sydney. There, Taraq was commissioned to create a national league table for mental health sensitivity in filmmaking—a visionary project complete with a TED Talk, book deal, TV series, and university lecture tour.
Their cultural adventure took playful turns, from dancing in a Saturday Night Fever-inspired show in New York, complete with pizza in Brooklyn, to attending a gymnastics championship in Paris. In Cape Town, they wandered through a digitally enhanced art gallery showcasing Picasso’s works reimagined through technology.
The journey continued with a year-long exploration of London’s rich cultural scene. Taraq shared his passion for rock and pop concerts, his love of Shakespearean tragedy, and a keen interest in science fiction cinema. His ideal itinerary featured everything from opera to musicals, culminating in a hero’s lunch with Winston Churchill and Queen Elizabeth—a fitting finale for a man who blends imagination with insight.
