Dance adventurer
I'm John Darvell, a choreographer, Artistic Director of NOCTURN, and a disrupter in dance and participatory art. I specialise in co-creating interactive digital dance adventures that highlight the talents of later-life dancers. Through the use of everyday technology, I delve into the impact of technology itself, mental health, and the challenges faced by the LGBTQ+ community.
My journey into dance began later in life when I pursued contemporary dance training at Trinity Laban. Drawing on my background in visual design and entrepreneurial skills, I've developed a distinctive approach that creates immersive experiences for audiences.
I'm excited to share that I also offer web design services through my company, NOCTURN Designs. By utilising the Squarespace platform, I provide artists and small businesses with impactful and cost-effective solutions that leave a lasting impression.
My work has been supported by Arts Council England, with notable projects including 'The Riddle,' a touring digital treasure hunt presented at various festivals, 'Smile Inside,' a captivating dance film inspired by personal stories from hospital patients, '…And They Have Escaped,' an installation exploring our reliance on mobile phones through dance and technology, and 'dareyouwatch,' an immersive site-specific performance streamed live over 18 hours.
