Meet Sara Kišević (Gallery professional and Fine Art Ambassador).

Sara Kišević is a versatile professional in the arts and culture sector, combining academic excellence with hands-on experience in curation, arts marketing, and event planning. Based in Switzerland, she is our Fine Art Ambassador there for the Arts and Culture Network.

Mark and Sara discussed Sara's personal branding and career aspirations, using Sales Navigator and a LinkedIn strategy to make some advancements in getting Sara more embedded in the fine art scene.

Education and Early Foundations (2017–2023)

Sara’s academic journey began at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb, where she earned a double bachelor’s degree in Art History and Comparative Literature in 2020.

The arts led her to further studies at the University of Bern, where she graduated in 2023 with a master’s degree in World Literature, earning the prestigious Insigni Cum Laude distinction. Her thesis, “This or That? Here or There? Developing the Concept of Unbelonging”, explored themes of identity and belonging through the lens of literature and art.

Simultaneously, she pursued dual master’s degrees in Arts and Culture Management at the Rome Business School and Universidad Internacional de Valencia, earning top honours in 2023.

These programmes equipped her with expertise in digital marketing, project management, and leadership, as well as a keen understanding of the global art market.

Early Career and Volunteer Experience (2017–2022)

Sara’s professional journey began as an usher at Gavella Drama Theatre in Zagreb, where she honed her interpersonal skills while ensuring seamless event operations.

In 2020, she volunteered as an expert contributor to the IIC Croatian Group, aiding in the preservation of cultural heritage following Zagreb’s earthquake. This work demonstrated her commitment to safeguarding artistic legacies.

Her international exposure expanded with a role as a volunteer staff member at the Zurich Film Festival in 2022, where she deepened her understanding of cultural event logistics and audience engagement.

Emerging Professional Roles (2022–2023)

In 2022, Sara co-curated the Visarte Best of 2022 exhibition in Zurich, collaborating with a dynamic team to showcase exceptional artistic talent. Her success in this role solidified her passion for arts management.

Shortly after, she joined MTEL Switzerland as a shop agent, further developing her communication and problem-solving skills in a customer-facing role.

Sara also served as a program associate with Udruga Atanor in Croatia in 2023, where she coordinated logistics for the Gallery Challenges in Developing Audiences conference, focusing on innovative approaches to gallery operations and audience development.

Editorial and Strategic Roles (2023–2024)

Sara transitioned into editorial work with Arcadia, a Geneva-based publication, in late 2023. Over the course of a year, she meticulously reviewed and curated academic articles, ensuring precision and fostering creative collaboration. This role allowed her to merge her literary expertise with her passion for arts and culture.

Current Endeavours and Future Aspirations (2024–Present)

In November 2024, Sara joined Galerie Adrienne Desbiolles in Zurich as a fine art gallery sales assistant, where she connects clients with fine art pieces while deepening her knowledge of art curation and marketing.

Sara remains dedicated to expanding her expertise in arts marketing, project management, and cultural event planning, aspiring to create meaningful experiences that celebrate creativity and create cultural dialogue. Her fluency in English, Italian, advanced Russian, and intermediate German underscores her ability to contribute to international cultural initiatives.

The interview with Sara Kišević, hosted by Mark Walmsley of the Arts and Culture Network, focused on creating Sara’s fantasy cultural year.

This imaginative journey allowed Sara to explore her personal preferences and cultural aspirations through a series of thoughtfully crafted scenarios.

  1. Favourite Building Sara chose the Pink Mosque in Shiraz, Iran, as her favourite building, citing its serene atmosphere and stunning interplay of light and colours. She also mentioned Ravenna, Italy, as a close second for its mosaics and architectural beauty.

  2. Fantasy Locale and Atmosphere Seated near the Pink Mosque, Sara envisioned herself enjoying Iranian tea, accompanied by a book of poetry by Wisława Szymborska, blending Eastern and Western cultural elements.

  3. A Year of Study Abroad Sara imagined an Iranian family's sponsorship for a year-long art history study. She chose South Korea as her destination to explore a cultural context outside Europe, envisioning first-class travel and an introduction to Korean art and culture.

  4. Cultural Events

    • Dance Performance: Sara would watch a performance by Maurice Béjart, appreciating his revolutionary work in expressionist ballet.

    • Cuisine: She opted for authentic Korean food for dinner, embracing the local culinary experience.

    • Sports: Sara selected dressage, reflecting her equestrian background and love for its artistry.

  5. Immersive Art Experience In a fictitious digitally enhanced gallery in Seoul, Sara would step into Salvador Dalí's surrealist worlds, keen to explore their intricate details up close.

  6. Fantasy Week of Performances

    • Monday: A time-traveling trip to see Queen live at Wembley during Live Aid.

    • Tuesday: A play by her favorite Croatian playwright, Matija Ferlin.

    • Wednesday: The original production of Cats in 1980s London.

    • Thursday: Mozart’s Don Giovanni at the opera.

    • Friday: Screening of Parasite, an acclaimed South Korean film.

  7. Dream Dinner Companions Sara selected bell hooks, whose writing profoundly influenced her thesis on belonging, as her ideal dinner companion. She also invited Lana Bastašić, a young author with ex-Yugoslavian roots, to join the table, fostering a dynamic intellectual dialogue.

  8. Return and Future Aspirations After her fantasy year, Sara imagined transitioning to public recognition with a book, TED Talk, university lectures, and even a TV series on South Korean art history.

Closing Reflections Sara expressed gratitude for the interview's engaging and imaginative format, which highlighted her cultural interests and aspirations. She encouraged others in similar positions to seek mentorship and guidance from Mark and the Arts and Culture Network, emphasising the empowering impact of their support.
