- Geeta Yerra - Storytelling Indian artist.
Develop your own profile, network, career, and/or business by joining us at The Arts and Culture Network as a full member. It's just £10 per month. Cancel any time. Benefits are here . This profile is just one of them. Meet Geeta Yerra. Geeta Yerra is a dynamic and self-taught Indian artist whose creative journey has flourished over the past decade. In our interview, we explored her work and I created Geeta's fantasy cultural year. Expect surprises, laughter and conversational detours from this talented Indian artist. Listen to our interview here . Initially trained in Human Resources, Geeta's life took an unexpected turn when she moved to the UK with her husband for two years. During this period abroad, her passion for art deepened, leading her to make the life-altering decision to leave her HR career behind upon returning to India. Art became more than just a pastime; it became her true calling, shaping the course of her future. Our podcast episode is here . Geeta's early artistic endeavours were focused on realism, with a particular affinity for watercolour paintings that captured the nuances of everyday life. Her works during this period were celebrated for their delicate precision and attention to detail. However, the global pandemic in 2020 served as a transformative period in Geeta's artistic evolution. It was during this time that she began to delve into concept art, shifting her focus to larger-scale oil paintings on expansive linen canvases. This transition marked a significant departure from her earlier works, allowing her to explore more profound themes and ideas. Today, Geeta’s art is a reflection of her experiences, emotions, and observations of the world around her. Her paintings serve as visual diaries, chronicling true events and personal stories that have left an indelible mark on her. She is particularly drawn to creating art that adds to the tapestry of history, capturing moments in time through a surrealistic style that is rich with symbolism, motifs, and allegory. Her use of colour and texture is deliberate, often employing layers of paint to build depth and convey the complexity of her subjects. Small brushstrokes and intricate details invite viewers to engage with her work on a deeper level, uncovering hidden meanings and sparking an emotional connection. Geeta’s commitment to concept art is evident in her repetitive exploration of themes, where she revisits the same ideas through different visual interpretations. This ongoing dialogue with her own concepts allows her to continuously evolve as an artist, offering fresh perspectives on familiar subjects. Her work is characterised by a sense of beauty, confidence, uncertainty, and perseverance, all of which are woven into the fabric of her creations. In addition to her original paintings, Geeta’s art is widely accessible through various online platforms, including Artfinder , Saatchi Art , and Tricera . She also offers art prints through Fine Art America, ensuring that her work reaches a global audience. Her website serves as a hub for her latest conceptual pieces, where she encourages visitors to not only explore her art but also leave with a sense of joy and inspiration. For Geeta, art is not just about visual appeal; it’s about connecting with others, sharing stories, and fostering a sense of community through creativity. Geeta’s artistic philosophy is grounded in the belief that art is a powerful medium for self-expression and healing. Whether she’s depicting a serene landscape, a kiss, a poignant moment in time, or an abstract concept, her work is infused with a deep sense of purpose. She hopes that her paintings will resonate with viewers, prompting them to reflect on their own experiences and perhaps even initiate an inner dialogue. Through her art, Geeta Yerra continues to explore the unknown parts of herself, creating works that are not only visually compelling but also emotionally resonant. Her journey as an artist is a testament to the transformative power of creativity, and she remains dedicated to producing art that inspires, uplifts, and connects people across the world. - Ekaterini Koliakou - Sensual and provocative multi-disciplinary fine artist.
Develop your own profile, network, career, and/or business by joining us at The Arts and Culture Network as a full member. It's just £10 per month. Cancel any time. Benefits are here . This profile is just one of them. Meet Ekaterini Koliakou. Ekaterini Koliakou is a vibrant force of nature, a whirlwind enlivening the art world with her imagination, creativity and talent. Unique in her combination of sensuality and provocation Ekaterini sees her work as a diary. Working both figuratively, with abstraction and words she gives a sense of intimacy without fear or confession. In various techniques from using brushes to using her hands, the painted surface shifts between articulated brush strokes to playfully primitive impulsive markings. Her subjects are often naked to allow a sense of honesty and equality. Her work is sensual and sometimes cynical ... provocative, but gentle. Ekaterini is a maestro of colour, and a cultural connoisseur who sees the world not just as it is, but as it could be ... wrapped in hues, rhythm, and raw emotion. With over three decades of fine art and visual expression to guide her, Ekaterini has honed a talent so versatile, it's almost as if she was born with a paint brush in one hand and a camera in the other. https://www.ekaterinikoliakou.com/ Early Days and Artistic Evolution: Ekaterini’s artistic odyssey began in the bustling heart of Athens, Greece, where the Mediterranean light and ancient ruins no doubt sparked her creative fire. Her first dip into art education was at Vakalo Art and Design College in 1987. She then explored the delicate contrasts of black and white photography at Focus Athens. But Athens was just the beginning. In a move that would shape her future, Ekaterini moved to London, where she immersed herself in the world of art and design at Westminster Kingsway College. Her thirst for knowledge and artistic mastery was unquenchable, leading her to the Aldo Galli Academy of Fine Arts in Como and the prestigious Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera in Milan. By the time she completed her studies at the Fine Art School of Athens, graduating with distinction, Ekaterini had transformed from a student of art into a creator of worlds. Her Creative Journey: Ekaterini’s work is a living, breathing diary, where each brushstroke and every line of graphite tells a story. Her art is deeply personal, yet it resonates with universal themes. Her use of bold colours and dynamic forms reflects the passionate dialogues she shares with her surroundings, whether she's exploring the serene landscapes of Greece, the bustling streets of London, or the cultural mosaics of the places she's called home. She’s not just about creating art; she’s about creating experiences. Ekaterini’s canvases are where the figurative meets the abstract, where words become visual poetry, and where her subject - often depicted in their raw, natural form - convey honesty and equality. Her work is sensual yet satirical, provocative yet gentle. It’s this duality that makes her art so compelling, drawing viewers into her world and making them reluctant to leave. A Global Influence Ekaterini’s work has not just stayed within the four walls of a gallery; it has travelled the world, just like her. From group shows in West Hollywood to solo exhibitions in Athens, her art has been embraced by audiences across Europe, the USA, and beyond. She’s been a part of iconic art fairs in Padova, Thessaloniki, and London, and her work has adorned billboards in Los Angeles and Hyde Park Corner in London, leaving a lasting imprint on the global art scene. Her artistic endeavours go beyond the canvas. Ekaterini has been a passionate advocate for using art to champion human rights, creating works that resonate with the vulnerable, the displaced, and the voiceless. Whether it’s painting for refugees or creating message art that speaks to the dignity and respect of all people, Ekaterini uses her talents to build bridges where there are none, and to shine light where there is darkness. Examples of Ekaterini's work A Life of Artistic Pursuits: Ekaterini is far from done. With multiple patents, publications, and honours to her name, she continues to push the boundaries of what art can be. She’s a polyglot, fluent in English, Italian, and French, always eager to learn, to explore, and to meet new people. Her mission? To make art accessible and enjoyable for everyone, to unite people, and to express the youthful spirit that drives her creative soul. Her philosophy is simple yet profound: to smell the colour of the universe and type it into her paintings, creating works that are not just seen but felt. Ekaterini Koliakou is a woman of many layers - an artist, a traveller, a dreamer, and a storyteller. Her work is a testament to the power of creativity and the endless possibilities that come with an open mind and a passionate heart. Whether she’s in the studio, at an exhibition, Ekaterini is always searching for that next spark of inspiration, ready to turn the ordinary into something extraordinary. - Joyce Moi - Gallery owner and champion for neuro-diverse artists and their art.
Develop your own profile, network, career, and/or business by joining us at The Arts and Culture Network as a full member. It's just £10 per month. Cancel any time. Benefits are here . This profile is just one of them. Meet Joyce Moi. Joyce Moi is a woman whose journey through life could be compared to a vibrant tapestry- each thread meticulously woven with passion, resilience, and a sprinkle of quirky flair. She is a gallery owner and champion of neuro-diverse artists and their art. The founder of Janet Lee Gallery , Joyce has carved out a unique space in the art world that celebrates the extraordinary talents of neuro-diverse artists, turning challenges into opportunities and disabilities into powerful abilities. She also mentors neuro-diverse artists and their families. Joyce gives us a winding path of her story and how she got where she is today with the sprinkle of amusement that creating her fantasy cultural year always brings. The Early Years: A Corporate Powerhouse Before she became the driving force behind Janet Lee Gallery, Joyce’s career took off in the corporate world, where she was anything but ordinary. From her beginnings as a Systems Supervisor at Sistemaju Malaysia, she gradually scaled the heights of corporate Malaysia, transitioning into roles that demanded not just intellect, but strategic prowess and a dash of boldness. Whether as a Product Manager or as the Vice President of Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise, Joyce was always the one to watch - the person who knew how to turn a challenge into a triumph. A Shift in Purpose: From Corporate to Caregiver However, life had more in store for Joyce than just boardrooms and bottom lines. Her world pivoted when her daughter, Janet Lee, came into the picture. Janet was differently-abled and medically challenged, but Joyce saw in her daughter an artistic spark - one that needed nurturing, protection, and most importantly, a platform. So, in 2020, Janet Lee Gallery was born, a sanctuary where Janet’s art could not only be displayed but celebrated. Joyce’s mission? To empower Janet to be financially independent and inspire others to see that “disability” is just another word for a different kind of ability. Janet Lee Gallery: More Than Just a Gallery Under Joyce's guidance, Janet Lee Gallery became more than just a place to showcase art; it became a movement. The gallery operates on the tenets of positivity, empowerment, and gratitude - values that Joyce not only preaches but lives by. With Janet's passing, the gallery's mission evolved further, transforming into a beacon for other neuro-diverse talents and their families. Joyce became a mentor, guiding parents who, like her, want to cultivate a space where their children’s unique talents can shine brightly. The Mentor: Guiding Others Along the Path In addition to running the gallery, Joyce's passion for helping others led her to earn numerous certifications and become a coach for parents navigating the complexities of raising neuro-diverse children. Whether through the Qigong Sensory Training Institute, the Crispiani Method, or as a certified DIR Floortime Provider, Joyce has amassed an impressive toolkit of techniques and approaches. She doesn't just mentor - she transforms lives, helping families see the potential in every challenge and the possibility in every obstacle. Beyond the Gallery: A Legacy of Positivity and Empowerment Joyce Moi’s journey is far from over. With each new chapter, she continues to write a story that is equal parts inspirational and deeply human. Whether she’s advising a CEO, coaching a parent, or simply sharing Janet’s story with the world, Joyce embodies the belief that everything is possible with a bit of determination, a lot of heart, and an unwavering belief in the power of positivity. So, if you ever find yourself at Janet Lee Gallery, remember—you're not just looking at art; you're witnessing the manifestation of a mother’s love, a mentor’s wisdom, and a woman’s dream to change the world, one brushstroke at a time. - Pharrell Williams and the cultural olympiad.
Develop your own profile, network, career, and/or business by joining us at The Arts and Culture Network as a full member. It's just £10 per month. Cancel any time. Benefits are here . This profile is just one of them. Pharrell Williams Calls for the Return of Arts Competitions to the Olympics As the world enjoys the 2024 Paris Olympics, a surprising suggestion has emerged from none other than Pharrell Williams. The renowned musician and designer made waves recently by advocating for the revival of arts competitions at the Olympic Games—a tradition that has been absent for over seven decades. Williams made this bold proposition during a high-profile Louis Vuitton event in Paris, a city synonymous with artistic excellence. The event, which took place just one night before the opening ceremony, gathered an array of celebrities and influencers. Amid the fashion and fanfare, Williams used his platform to suggest reinstating the arts competitions for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. For many, this might seem like a left-field idea, but there’s historical precedent. Between 1912 and 1948, the modern Olympic Games included competitions in various art forms. Medals were awarded in five categories: architecture, literature, music, painting, and sculpture. These categories were deeply rooted in the spirit of the Games, with all submissions required to draw inspiration from sports. The Olympic Games have ancient origins, starting as religious and athletic events in honor of the Greek god Zeus. These early games featured athletic contests like running and discus throwing and were accompanied by sacrifices to the gods. The ancient Olympics thrived for over a millennium before being banned in 393 CE by the Roman Emperor Theodosius I, who viewed them as a pagan tradition. Fast forward to the late 19th century, when the Olympics were revived by French Baron Pierre de Coubertin. Inspired by the ancient games, de Coubertin envisioned a modern event that would marry athletic prowess with cultural achievement. While the arts were initially sidelined in the first few modern Olympics, they eventually made their debut in the 1912 Stockholm Games, thanks to de Coubertin's persistence. From 1912 to 1948, the arts competitions became an official part of the Olympics, with 151 medals awarded to artists whose works were inspired by sports. However, this requirement—tying artistic creations to the theme of sports—ultimately limited the breadth and consistency of these competitions. As the Olympics grew into a global phenomenon, the arts were phased out, with the 1948 Games being the last to feature such competitions. By 1952, any attempts to revive them had been rejected, and the medals previously awarded were removed from the official Olympic records. Pharrell Williams, though not offering specific details on how these competitions might be reimagined, clearly believes in the value of bringing them back. In a time when the arts are facing significant challenges, from gaps in professional opportunities to low wages, a revival of this tradition could provide a much-needed platform for artists. The potential to spotlight new talent and foster creative expression within the Olympic framework is a compelling idea that could breathe fresh life into both the Games and the arts community. As we look forward to the 2028 Olympics, it will be interesting to see if Williams' call to action gains traction. Reviving the arts competitions would undoubtedly require a concerted effort from the artistic community and broader support from Olympic organisers. Yet, in a world where the intersection of culture and sport is increasingly celebrated, this may be the perfect moment to rekindle a tradition that honors both. Develop your own profile, network, career, and/or business by joining us at The Arts and Culture Network as a full member. It's just £10 per month. Cancel any time. Benefits are here . This profile is just one of them. Meet Ian Jones. Ian Jones is a gallery owner, curator and art director at Galerie P6 in Berlin, and is renowned for his passion for bringing fine art to those in his community. Ian has successfully built a thriving business in the art world post-pandemic. Here is the audio of our interview: Ian's network of contacts, market knowledge, and creative vision have established Galerie P6 as a hub for collectible fine art from both emerging and established artists, while also crafting memorable experiences for art lovers. In our interview, I created Ian's fantasy cultural year from the answers to 10 easy questions. Expect some laughter, anecdotes, surprises, and conversational detours. Ian and I shared ambitious plans to create at Galerie P6, the first and only interactive pointillism gallery in Berlin. Visitors will be invited to study the works and write what they see in them on the wall next to the work, for others to see. This groundbreaking project aims to involve visitors in the experience more, as participants rather than observers. They'll feel part of the experience by interpreting the work with their own imaginations. This initiative aligns with Ian’s broader mission to engage the community and offer new ways to experience art. In our interview I studied a work by Paul Gardner. What do you see in this work? Tell us . I see a garden path, doors, trees, bushes and a horizon that the artist had not intended. As a result, I felt part of the process of discovery and enjoyment. A highlight of our conversation was the creation of Ian’s fantasy cultural year. This imaginative journey included visits to Paris, Vienna, Malaga, and Barcelona, with each city offering tailored experiences to deepen Ian’s expertise in pointillism. Activities ranged from studying original Pointillist works in Paris to enjoying cultural events like a Rammstein concert and a Shakespeare play in Barcelona. With his plans for an interactive pointillism gallery Ian aims to revolutionise how art is experienced and appreciated in his community. Ian’s background in tourism management and his passion for opera uniquely position him to create enriching cultural experiences. His vision for Galerie P6 and his innovative projects continue to push the boundaries of the traditional gallery model, offering a glimpse into the future of art and community engagement. This profile is just one of them. Meet Christine Blom. Christine Blom is not your average artist. she’s the mastermind behind Bulle d'Art and NomadWallsgallerybkk, and the charismatic host of the "Vies de Nomade" podcast. Fluent in three languages and with a passport packed with international experience, Christine is a whirlwind of creativity and organisation. Listen to our interview on SoundCloud here: Born with an insatiable curiosity and a flair for the dramatic, Christine’s journey through life is a tapestry of vibrant experiences and cultural explorations. Her knack for crafting unique events and her relentless self-demand have propelled her to create some of the most original festive and artistic gatherings around. But that’s just one side of the coin. Christine is also a sculptor, pouring her heart and soul into artistic pieces that tell stories of their own. Currently based in the bustling metropolis of Bangkok, Christine has carved out a niche for herself by blending her passion for art and event organisation into an eclectic artistic space. This sanctuary invites artists to express themselves freely and encourages visitors to discover, breathe, and connect through special moments of shared creativity.Christine and I discussed her superpower - adaptability from living in 7+ countries - and how she would fit right in with creating her fantasy cultural year. It was really interesting to find out her favourite dance, music, films and more! Early Years Christine’s love affair with art began in the studio of Annabelle Hyvrier in Brussels in 2006. Here, she immersed herself in the fundamentals of figurative sculpture for two transformative years. Lisbon Adventures (2008 - 2013) Moving to Lisbon in 2008, Christine expanded her artistic repertoire, delving into ceramics at the Fine Art University of Lisbon and under the tutelage of Helena Abrantes. Her time in Portugal was marked by a deepening of her craft, learning various glazing techniques and exhibiting her work. Back to Paris (2013) Christine’s Parisian interlude saw her honing her skills at the Rrose Selavy studio, further solidifying her reputation as a dynamic and passionate artist. Hong Kong Chapter (2015 - Present) Settling in Hong Kong, Christine launched "Momentsinclay" in August 2015, establishing herself as a sculptor and art consultant. Her work gained traction, leading to the founding of the Bulle d'Art community space in 2018. Here, she devoted herself to creating her own art and curating group classes and exhibitions. Bangkok Bound (2022 - Present) Never one to stay put, Christine’s ventures led her to Bangkok, where she established NomadWallsgallerybkk in January 2022. This space continues to thrive, hosting sculpture classes and new artistic endeavours. Podcasting & Curating (2021 - Present) In March 2021, Christine embarked on a new journey with her podcast "Vies de Nomade," celebrating the lives of modern nomads. By 2023, she was organising significant exhibitions, like “CHOICES: what do you stand for?” in Bangkok, showcasing both French and Thai artists. International Exhibitions (2023) Christine's curatorial eye took Thai art to Portugal in summer 2023, continuing her mission of cultural exchange and artistic discovery. Christine’s artistry is ever-evolving, deeply influenced by the places she’s lived and the experiences she’s amassed. Her sculptures, often characterised by vibrant colours, refined shapes, and emotional depth, are a testament to her journey as a nomad and artist. Through her work, Christine Blom invites us all to share in her stories, emotions, and the joy of constant discovery.
